DS is 23 months old and still on full fat milk.  His pediatrician said to keep him on it until he was 2 years old.  Their little body needs the things that are in the full fat milk to develop properly.  That being said...I'm not a doctor!  So, I would consult your pediatrician if you would like to make the switch!

Guidelines here are for full fat until aged 2, as they need the fat, etc

Full fat here too.  Only recently at 3YO have I started now to give semi-skimmed on and off now.

The milkfat and other healthy fats are essential for brain and neurological development and function. Definitely stick with full-fat dairy, including yogurt. :)

my lo has been om semi since 12 mths old as he was un able to tolerate full fat. the only difference is the fat content, all other vit and min are the same. This was advised to me by my dr and health visitor.

I think unless there is an intolerance like you describe it should be full fat milk until at least 2 YO because of the fats.

If for some reason the full-fat isn't tolerated, that would certainly be another story. :) We still have full-fat yogurt here, even us adults (yogurt's the only dairy we can tolerate anyway :-\). :)

Semi skimmed milk is normally around 1.7% fat.  Some milk companies have started doing 1% fat and (more rarely) 2% fat variants so saying "higher than 2%" basically means "full fat" anyway.

The lower the fat, the lower the fat soluble vitamins too.

In the UK the advice is wait till 2 years to switch to semi skimmed and then only if weight gain is good so wait till after the 2 year check.
