how to transition from 3 naps to 2?
« on: December 10, 2011, 01:11:46 am »
I think it's time for my LO to go to 2 naps, but I can't quite figure out how to do it.  She's 5.5 months old, and I've sort of started trying her on some solids, but she's pretty much still completely breast fed.  I usually feed her around 7, 11, 2, 5 and 7:30 to sleep.  However, it's been a bit varied since she's been waking up at night again and then sometimes sleeps longer in the mornings.  She used to nap from 9:30-11, 1 or 1:30-2 or 2:30 and then about 4:30-5.  I'm having a really hard time getting her to go down for her last nap and even her earlier afternoon one is often cut short.  I've tried PU/PD to extend naps, but it hasn't worked yet.  We have done PU/PD at night sometimes and it has worked.  She typically goes to sleep completely on her own for naps.
Do you think I should try to cut a nap?  I feel like, by doing so, her eating schedule will be all messed up.  She already is more distracted.  Today when she woke up from her nap (which she slept for 2 hours) she was super happy and didn't even want to eat really, even though it had been 4 hours.  Then, when I got ready to put her down for her second nap, she was starving, so I had to feed her, but then she woke up wide awake, and when I tried again to put her down she was OT and therefore cried to sleep and only slept 30 min.  Sigh.  This isn't the norm though.

Hi there,

Have a look at this

And the 3-2 support thread.

I would gradually increase her A time up closer to 3 hours, once she is there she should be ready to drop the CN.
