Cot only for sleeping?
« on: December 11, 2011, 05:00:53 am »
We've been using the cot sometimes as a place to put our DS (6mo) to hang out and play,
We put him in there when we need a bit of "time out", with toys and music and he plays by himself and has a great time.
However, lately his naps have been 30min long each time and I wonder if the cot should be for sleeping only so that he's not confused going in there whether it's play or sleep.
There is also the option that I haven't been keeping him up long enough..
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

I always used it for play/sleeping for DS1 and never was it an issue for confusing the two, in facct it helps him to feel safe and secure in his own bed. I even get into the cot with him and play sometimes now with DS2.
I say keep going with it, its more likely to be something else ")

Good advice from Jo.

Tracy advised to give your LO some daily play time in the cot (I think 20 mins or so), as Jo has said it helps them to feel safe and secure there, helps them associate with a happy time.  This isn't the cause of your nap problems.

30 mins could be UT or OT.  If you feel an A increase is due then go for that in increments, give it several days to improve the nap length.

Thanks for your advice ladies, I'm glad he gets to play in his cot.
I'm really baffled by the reason for the short naps, but am working on different solutions.
