Am i reading his cues wrong??? 6 month old nw
« on: December 24, 2011, 14:23:39 pm »
Hi moms

So i have posted many times - always about sleeping issues and this time is the same thing.

My LO is waking at night a lot. He seems to be happy and is talking to himself. I know this indicates UT but it can't be. I have been giving him 3 hours to 3 hours 20 minutes A time. Before he would show tired signs at 2 hours - but since the increase after about 1 hour he starts showing signs of tiredness. I don't put him down - i usually try and push him till about 3 hours.

At night he wakes every hour or 2. Around 3 or 4 am he wakes up and will just talk to himself. I try leaving him and he just continues talking and babbling - i've left him for 30 minutes and he still talks. I'll go to him and try getting to go to bed but he fights it.

How do i put him back to sleep? Do i use pupd when he isn't crying just talking?

I'm really tired and i feel like because of all his nw's is he getting into a OT rut???

Really need help - thank you

You could try and increase A time just a little bit, by 5 or 10 minutes and see if that makes any difference.
I know it's very very difficult, but I suggest you don't go in there until he is "calling" you, even if in your eyes it takes him so long to go back to sleep. You can actually create a prop like that and he will relay on you to go back to sleep.

So even if hes awake and talking for an hour leave hin? Until he starts crying? I find it so hard cause I can't sleep while he's awake and talking. I read somewhere about using ear plugs - maybe I'll try that

Thanks for the advice

When I wrote I know it's difficult, I meant it, I KNOW it's hard, but you need to remind yourself that he is learning to sooth himself (and sometimes it takes them an hour...). If he needs you he'll cry in a way that you can't doubt he is needing you.
