30-45 Min nap Issues with 11 week old! help!
« on: December 28, 2011, 16:21:24 pm »
Hello All! I am new to baby whisperer and have been doing baby wise for the past 2 1/2 months. SO we have been on an eat/wake/sleep cycle. My little guy is on a 3 hour feeding schedule and is generally a VERY happy baby he just seems very uninteredted in sleeping. When we lay him down for a nap he has usually been up for 1 hour - 1 15 minutes and goes right to sleep with nothing more than a pacifier. But, like clockwork he wakes up after either 30 or 45 minutes and is unable to soothe himself back to sleep. He is still very tired though and the ONLY way to get him back to sleep is to put him in the swing where he will sleep for the remainder of the 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour nap. He is still not consistently sleeping through the night. We put him down at 8:00pm then do a dream feed at 10:30 and he was consistently waking at 5:15. Just as we were going to try the wke to sleep he woke up at 3:00 last night!!! I put paci in and then finally fed him at 4:00am then he was cooing and talking at 6:15 ready to get up! We REALLY eed some help!!!!

Hi there
Can you post your EASY for us?

Also, just wanted to point out that a lot of  babies wake between 6-7am to start their day. As long as they're getting the proper amount of sleep during the night, this is nothing to worry about...it may not be to your liking ;), but most babies are just hardwired that way. Many also prefer an earlier BT. So if you find your LO is consistently waking around 6, then I would bring BT up earlier so that he is getting more night sleep.

Also, short naps are pretty common at this age. Up until around 6 months, 30-45 min naps are kinda the norm for a lot of ppl. You can work on extending them, but you also should keep the A times short to compensate for that.

When you say that the swing is the only way for him to get back to sleep..what else have you tried and for how long for each method?

WRT to not STTN, this is totally fine and normal!! Your LO is so young!!! :)
Technically the definition of STTN is 5 hours which your LO is doing. ;)
Lots of babies still wake up for a feed for many months yet. If you are having multiple NWs (more than 3 or so), then I would say that some of them are feeds and some are probably due to OT and/or sleep props.
