How to Make Him Sleep
« on: December 29, 2011, 03:58:37 am »
I am a working mum and my helper takes care of my DS while I'm at work. I've stated that I do not want her carrying and patting him to sleep but have caught her doing it again.

I have read BW with my first child and need some refresher here. I'd tried the PU-PD method but since he's so active, he'd flip and turn each time I put him down. I end up losing patience and nurse him to sleep instead.

How do I start from here? Need to be able to do it before I can insist on my helper doing the same instead of carrying him to sleep.

Thank you.

How old is your baby? What is his routine like?

He's 7 1/2 mths old. He's still on full BM.

7am                 Wakes
7.30am             E     4oz BM
7.30 - 9.30am    A
9.30-10.30am    S
11am                E     5-6 oz BM
12pm               Lunch - Fruit or veggie
12-1.30            A
1.30-2.30pm      S
3pm                 E     5-6 oz BM
3.30-5pm          A
5-5.30pm          S
6pm                 E
7Pm                 Dinner    Fruit / Veggie/ cereal
8PM Sleep ( He may cry after about 30min so we try to keep him up till abt 9+. Previously when he went to bed at 8pm, he woke up at 5am. So    trying to push his wake up time to later).

His naps last btw 30min to 11/2 hour, depending if my helper is able to tap him back to sleep when he cries 30min after falling asleep. If he doesn't, his afternoon naps are usually only half an hour.

It's OK if he flips over when you're doing PUPD, he may be just trying to find his own position to sleep in. Let him flip about in his crib, only pick him up if he is really crying hard and then only for a minute. Don't do PUPD for 20 mins and then nurse to sleep - if you're going to do it, you need to stick with it. If you stick with pUPD he should be going to sleep independently quite soon and then your helper won't need to walk and pat him to sleep

At this age most babies are transitioning to 2 naps per day, so I wonder if a little more A time may help him to take two slightly longer naps?
