expressing during AF
« on: January 09, 2012, 10:51:55 am »
I've taken a break from expressing for a while as i had a HUGE stash and wasn't using it up very fast! Now i'd like to do some more but the last couple of days have been abysmal! 40ml each go- if that- and usually i can get HEAPS more! I have my period at the moment and was wondering if anyone thought that this could be contributing? Also- should i keep expressing every day and hope that it gets better?

I have my AF too.  My first one since LO was born nearly 6 months ago. She has gone on boob strike and I can't get a bean out!

Some ladies definitely experience a dip in supply during AF.  Kellymom suggests that you make sure you are getting enough calcium as that may help.  Also, if you haven't been pumping your body won't be used to producing extra and it will take a few days for it to adjust.

Thanks erin- i'll keep persevering...

Kate- I was lucky enough to get it at pretty much 2 months!! I thought between breastfeeding and a diagnosis of PCOS (means my periods are always very unpredictable and irregular) i'd be right for AGES!! But no!! I think it's the price i pay for a LO who STTN most nights.. ah well- can't have it all!

Yes that is exactly my problem...(!?!) baby sleeps through the night and milk supply dips and AF comes back! There is always something ...

At least they STTN before you got AF back :)

Yeah, I had big supply drops for my first few, don't notice them so much now. Supply comes back pretty quickly afterwards for me. Fingers crossed for you xx

Already today was better- 70mls rather than <40.. no real let down though.. I'll keep it up! (am going away tomorrow tho with friends and staying at a holiday house.. i HATE pumping in public- ill BF in front of a crowd if required- but pumping is sort of weirder or something...)
