Tired cues but won't go down
« on: January 14, 2012, 17:28:49 pm »
LO was doing okay with sleep routine.

Now she's acting tired - eye rubbing, yawning, fussy, but she's fighting going down for every nap and night time. I've tried extending A time for 15 minute intervals, however she's fighting sleep for almost an hour every time so then she seems OT.

LO is 8 mos old.

EASY =
A = 6:30
E= 6:30 Nurse, then 7:15 solids
S=9:30 or 10am
A = 11:30
E = 11:30 nurse, then 12:00 solids
S = 3:00 or 3:30
A = 4:30
E = 4:30 Nurse, then 5:15 solids
S = 7 or 7:30

I think you need to increase A times a bit...  tired signs are not reliable past about 5 months of age ;)  If her body is used to a nap at a certain time, she will act tired at this time even if she is UT.  I think you might be in the very early stages of the 2-1... her day sleep needs are less but she can't handle the A times needed to have less day sleep, KWIM?  It's very common for LO's this age to have decent naps still, but nights get a bit closer to 10.5 hrs... until the 2-1 really kicks into gear :)

I would try this:

Wake 630
Nap 1: 10am
Nap 2: 330pm
BT: 8pm

It's a tricky stage - you don't want to cap naps yet as LO will become horribly OT very quickly.. so you have to take a later BT for a couple of months in many cases :)

Let me know what happens with pushing BT a bit later :)

Thanks!
Yeah, the EASY I posted was an average day. We're starting to see a 4 hr A time in the middle of the day.

Last night LO did pm nap: 3:20-4:40 and BT was 8pm. Her wake up this morning was 5:45!

She's had a week of 2 hr am naps and 1 or 1.5 hr pm naps, but today her am was barely an hour. :(

So now she's been A for almost 4 hr and acting all kinds of tired, so DH is trying to put her down now.

Just to clarify, is 4 hrs of A time "typical" of 8.5 mos old?

4 hrs is fairly common around this age, yes.

I would be willing to bet that she is using that first nap to finish her night sleep... it's perpetuating the EW ;)  I know all too well how much that sucks ;)  Pushing her first awake time will help :)
