Cot bumpers
« on: January 22, 2012, 11:21:36 am »
Hi all....
This is a random one!!

Dd is 9m and is still not sleeping well at nap time. and thanks to some fantastic guidance from Clazzat and Nicole, I got a planin place to go to set naps...
Then it was one thing after another.... Teeth a Nasty cold/cough,and a trip away for a wkend...then DD suddenly ( and finally!) dropped her catnap, so our plan went a bit on hold

Then I noticed last week, she was faffing about with her cot bumpers ( we have a cotbed, so the bumpershave been secure but they dont completely "fit") we also have the air wrap system to stop her arms getting stuck.... This has also proved popular entertainment!!! SoDD is getting very excited at the wrong time and so OT....:-(

This was leading me to rocking her a bit extra to try and get her nice and sleep so she wouldn't "play" I know this would usually be ut, but we had some pretty awful screaming sessions around all of this!!

So we removed the bumpers and padding, so had to move the cot ( as their is a socket right at the side that she didn't know about!!

NOW, she is tapping and playing with the wooden bars, and worse as she can now "see" everything it's harder to creep out of her room!!

Today I pushed her first a a bit more to 3 hours, at first her head was up and arms tapping the bars, so I scooped her back up and rocked a bit more... She went down ok ( firsttime in ages) but I suspect she was just about asleep... But she woke at 30mins... Dh is now apoping another sleep cycle

I am sure set naps are going to be the way for us, we just have no consistency, so we are going for 10 and 2..

My question are

How can I restore the cot to a safe sleepy environment????
How to wean the blinking rocking, when my now mobile baby has her head up!!!

For reference, within the past two week, my little busy bee has got two more teeth, learnt to crawl and sit up ( although not yet standing)

Her room is blacked out but does flood with light when I open the door. We also use White noise

Feeling very frustrated so all thoughts welcomed!!
Thanks everyone!!

Hi, sorry you have been waiting so long for a reply.
How are things now?
Developmental milestones can play havoc with sleep. Has any of the novelty worn off yet? Are you still rocking?
Are you creeping out because she isn't happy for you to leave the room?

We've never had bumpers or anything.. and he loves playing with the bars! Do you have her facing away from the door? As in head at the door end? Then you might be able to get out better without her noticing...

When this became an issue with DS, I let him play in there during the day so he could explore and then he didn't find it so interesting when he went it the cot for sleeping.

My LO sometimes runs his hands along the bars (makes a great noise) but he generally just does it for a short while before falling asleep...

Hey everyone thanks so much for posting :)

Well a couple of things have happened

DD suddenly dropped her cn (yippe finally) and her A times have absolutely rocketed from where they were (around 3 hours) to where they should be 3.5-3.50 in pm, so I am thinking that UT WAS a major issue, it's still a bit if a guessing game, so I am nervous to put her in until she is virtually asleep on me, BUT she is still self settling during the night (maybe one resettle needed) so indon't think it's a danger point just yet do you? But I miss being able to put her in and know she would get herself to sleep. I feel
A bit guilty like I am taking away her sleeping skills (is that a stupid and pointless worry???? It's just it all got so awful that I think I am a bit paranoid now!!

Anyhow, I did speak to
DH about turning the cot, and once everything settles down with her A I plan on looking at a set nap structure, maybe THEN I can let her roll around and relax!!!!

Thanks againg
