How to get 3mo to sleep with older sibling around?
« on: January 25, 2012, 05:16:43 am »
Any tips on putting a baby down for naps when you have an older child around?  I have a 3mo and he will go to sleep for naps if I rock him, use a paci, or sh/pat seems to be helpful too.  But, all these methods take time...sometimes up to 30 minutes.  I have another child at home, so I cannot stay in the nursery doing sh/pat for 30 minutes for each naptime.  I have tried just laying him down or just doing sh/pat for a few minutes until he is really sleepy-eyed but once I leave the room he just screams.  Any suggestions?
Thank you!

http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=80827.0 may give you some ideas.  What age is your other LO? Can he/she play in their room while you shh pat etc or sit in the room with you and play quietly/look at books?

I found that O needed little assistance for naps etc - maybe I was really lucky, but I think getting him down early enough etc really worked, and just needed to sing his name or put a hand on him gently helped; also allowing him to self-settle (listening to hear if he was upset and needed me, or just whimpering to get himself to sleep).  During the day I had his moses basket in our living room so he was used to sleeping with noise and it meant that M could play as normal and let me do any helping O.
