One good night among endless bad ones. What was different?
« on: January 26, 2012, 16:37:45 pm »
So amidst our 3+ a night wakings, my little guy had what I consider to be an amazing night. He did his usual longer stretch before bed (something newish, not sure if it's OS or what), fell asleep at 7:20, woke at 7:40 (another thing he does, wakes not long after bed), fell back to sleep at 8:20 (after a cryfest and nursing), then slept 5 hours, woke for a feed, the slept another 4, woke for a feed, then slept 1:45 before waking for the day. It felt amazing, despite the quirkiness of the evening leading up to it. But when I tried to reproduce the day and same amount of feedings, etc., we cannot seem to get that great night back! Any ideas why he would sleep so well out of the blue?

Any chance that there is some sort of discomfort going on? Teething etc? This can make every night different depending on how LO is feeling, how much pain they are in, etc?

Yep, he is definitely teething, and sometimes you can tell he's uncomfortable by how hard he bites my fingers. Too bad it's been going on for over a month with no tooth in sight. I guess I will just count my blessings when we get those good nights :)

Oh HUGS hun, I hate teething, it is just awful. I am sure the NW will be down to that to be honest. We find that it tends to come in waves of 4 or 5 days, then a break for a few days and then starts again until the tooth pops through. Have you tried giving pain meds 20 or 30 mins before bed? Also teething gels or powders can help some LOs too.

Hope those nasty teeth poke through soon. ;)

We give him that boiron teething liquid sometimes when I am almost positive his fussing is due to teething pain. I also sit with him in the rocker and let him chew on one of those rubber toothbrush things that fits over my finger. He loves it and drools to his heart's content haha.

He still wakes 3 times a night for feeds, and sometimes an extra wake for who knows what, but giving him his lovey and paci seems to help most times.
