13 month old with stuffy nose
« on: January 30, 2012, 19:06:39 pm »
My 13 month old is suspected MSPI and in addition to no dairy is on a gluten free diet.  Its been about 3 weeks dairy free and 2 weeks gluten free. His constipation is much better since removing these things from his diet.  He continues to have alot of gas, restlessness at night and a stuffy nose.  Could this be a sign of another intolerance??  ???

Oh cripes  :'( I would give it another week or 2 until you make a decision. It can take a while for the gut to heal and as he was so constipated I guess it may well take even longer than that. Did he have stuffy nose below? This is often dairy as it is mucous forming.

I am guessing you mean before? :)

Yes, he has had a stuffy nose on and off for quite a while but I noticed its been more prevalent these last few weeks...Could that be a symptom of exclusion?? Maybe bad getting out??

Opps yes sorry  ;)

Guess it could be exclusion. Or a cold? Is it cold where you are? Hayfever? Is it hot? Could be so many things tbh.  :P

I would leave it a week and see if the gas etc has improved. Hard to deal with it in isolation at the moment.

x

Its see-saw temps where I am right now.  It was freezing a few days ago and today its 60 degrees.  LOL  I always wondered if he has hayfever TBH.  I do saline spray whenever he sounds congested and it seems to help but only for a few hours and then he's back stuffy.  Its worse at night and sometimes interferes with his sleep.  I also use a humidifier at night and those vapor plug in things.....

BTW, his gas also seems worse at night and I do use gas drops but they really dont seem to help.

Olly's gas was always worse at night. In the day they are moving around it it moves the gas along. At night it builds up and causes pain. Give it a week or 2 more and see if that subsides too. If not we can look at other foods in his diet. x

Ok, thank you.  I have heard it can take up to 6 weeks for the foods to completely get out of their little systems??

Well when breast feeding it can take up 2 weeks to leave the milk then another 2 weeks to leave their system. Some other proteins may hang around longer. If there is damage in the gut then that will take a while longer to heal.
