Nap refusal and EW...
« on: February 04, 2012, 20:59:54 pm »
Hi, i need help figuring this one out... i posted on this board since DD is just under 1yo...

For the last 3-4 weeks, she's been refusing her morning nap at daycare and waking early most days...
This is now her typical day :

WU 5h30
Stay in bed until 6h15, not too happy
6h45 milk then breakfast
12h lunch
Nap : 12h45 for 2 - 2.5 hr (fixed time by daycare.. she sleeps as long as she wants..)
17h diner
BT 6h45-7

Ideally we would have a 6h30-7 start of the day, but that seems a long was way from her actual WU time !...
i don't know how i can change her schedule to make it work, especially since daycare naptime is set at 12h45... should i try later BT..?  Right now, she falls asleep very nicely, like i'm just on time...
Any thoughts ?
TIA

Do you mean she is refusing the nap at daycare at 12.45 or is there another morning nap that they offer that she is refusing?
7 hour a time in the morning does seem a lot for her age. I am guessing she is probably quite OT now and that could be causing the EWs.

Hi hon,

I would agree with PP that your LO is probably OT because of that huge morning A time. Refusing a nap and EWs are both pretty common signs that a LO is starting the transition from 2-1 naps, but it's usually a process that takes some time - she's probably not ready to cope with only one nap just yet, especially one that's so late in the day!

What was your routine a few weeks ago before you starting having these problems? Is the am nap at daycare also a set time, or can they be flexible and put your LO down when you ask them to?

Ideally if your daycare allows, you probably want to offer the am nap a little later than you were and then cap it, so that LO is still tired enough for a good PM nap. This should also help the EWs!  You gradually make that am nap shorter and shorter, until LO can manage just one midday nap. You'll find lots of info about the 2-1 transition here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95670.0 and here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=41952.0

as well as lots of support from others going through the same thing here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=221026.0

Hope that helps. Hugs, EWs are so hard!
