What to do when 21 month old wakes up, can't cope.
« on: February 08, 2012, 22:02:17 pm »
Have an awful sleeper, has always been awful  :'( Surprised my marriage has lasted the last 21 months. What I wanted to know is what are you supposed to do when they wake? I did pu/pd for dummy weening, what do we do when they are older? I am getting really close to just letting her cry. Can't find it in my heart to write her easy as have moved it round lots, tried EVERYTHING nothing works.

What I need now is an action plan of how to deal with the wakings  ::)

{{HUGS}} rubbish sleepers are the worst.

It will help us to have some more information though, so your EASY as it is now if you can. What time is she waking in the morning, what time is nap and what time is bedtime? Are the wakings in the night - (what times) or early morning?

Where is she with teeth - all in or molars coming through? Is she an independent sleeper or do you have any props?

No props apart from a blankie she sleeps with.
Wakes 7.30
Nap 12.30-2.00 (sometimes 2.30)
Bed 7.30 falls asleep 8ish

It's not teeth as she is always like this, never been any different. Independent sleeper always goes in cot and happy to be there.(since dummy weened at 8 months) I think she has a sleep disorder of some sort. I think she has to be the worst case of night wakings. Often the wakings will start from 9.30 tonight started at 9 and she is still going. She will stop crying if I pick her up or stroke her head. Then must night she will wake again 4 maybe 5 times. I've tweaked easy time and time again, nothing makes any different never see a pattern.

Waking in the early part of the night is usually related to over tired. I would do an earlier bedtime but you will need to stick at it for a good few weeks before you can see if it is working. I would start the bedtime routine by 6 to have her in bed and asleep by 6.30pm. As she has such a restless night I would try and earlier nap too - see if you can get her asleep between 11.30 and 12 for now but have her up by 2 to get enough A time for a 6.30 sleep.

What do you think about that for a start? Do you think you have become a prop in the night - do you pick her up or stroke her everytime she wakes?

Yeah I'd say in the last 2 weeks I've become a prop. She has an awful temper will kick her cot wack her head. So often I'd stoke her head to calm her down, then she will calm down and start again if I try to leave the room, not sure how to deal with that. Thanks for your reply x

My bed is calling me now, so have a look at this link for some ideas http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=80750.0. I'll be back tomorrow, or someone else will chime in ;)
