Need help with my 6 month old with napping and bedtime.
« on: February 13, 2012, 23:14:48 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have a baby boy who is 6 months old and is waking up 3-4 times a night. Since he was a newborn he was sleeping between 7-11 hours a night. He had a bad cold after the holidays and since then he has not been sleeping well. During the day he will not nap in his crib only on me and as soon as I put him in his crib he wakes up and screams. At night time sometimes he will go to bed no problem and then others he is sreaming for about 30 minutes to half an hour and I dont like it when he is crying alone in his crib. I am a first time mom and hoping that someone has advice for me. I am not sure if it is seperation anxitey or something else.

Thank you

HUGS - Does your LO suffer from reflux/wind or gas issues?

Can you please post your LOs typical day in EAS format ie
WU 7am
E 7am BF/Bottle 8am Solids
A 2.5hrs
S 9.30-11 (or you can put 9.30 1.5hrs)

This just helps give a rough idea of where you and LO are at )

Here at BW we do not believe in CC or CIO so you will be 100% supported not to leave him crying :-*

I'm going to pop you over to the EASY oars so you can get some routine advice.
In the meantime have a look at these sample Routines :)

your LO would likely sleep a lot better at night with an earlier BT, consistent A times and less frequent feeding/solids earlier in the day.

I agree with Sara, he does feed often during the day.
It's not quite clear for me from your EASY what are his As and how long he naps after every A time. You'd count A time including feeding time. Could you clarify that?
When does he wake up from his 3.30 nap? It seems like a long stretch between it and BT. Would you consider putting him earlier to bed?

How does he wake from these naps? - Could be really UT then OT, esp if the first nap is only after 1.5/2hrs A time :-\

Does he suffer from reflux or have any other discomfort? - 20min naps for us were always pain or seriously UT

You want to aim for something like this so that your LO has full feeds and it tired enough (but not OT) to take a good nap. I know its hard, 4-6 months can be messy!
WU 7
A 2.5-3hrs
Nap 9.30/10 for 1.5hrs
A 2.5/3 hrs
Nap 1.30/2 for 1.5hrs
A 2.5/3hrs
BT 6 or CN 5.30-6 and BT 7

Hi Malayk,

As crazy as this will sound, I found that with my son during his 4-6months, he was only sleeping for 15 minutes stretch.
He wanted to BF evertime he work, so he was only drinking the foremilk not the hindmilk.   And too much sucking and the foremilk, caused gas and OT.  As soon as I stopped the BF, it solved alot of the problems.  You might want to pump and give him the bottle.
Hope things get better for you.

Also because of the snacking your LO will be hungry more often.
I dont think you have to stop BF if he is feeding too frequently, just gently push the feeding times out every few days until you are up to ~4hrs. Z would feed frequently due to his reflux for a while and it was easy to push them out ONCE the reflux was controlled.

so many hugs
