6 week twins
« on: February 17, 2012, 16:10:09 pm »
Hello everyone,
I have just been looking through this fantastic forum and was hoping you might be able to help me. I have the Baby Whisperer book and have been trying to follow EASY but am finding it hard to stay on track - I could really do with a breakdown of a day to follow if possible. Can I ask for a little advice, please.
Are there examples of 4 hourly routines? I have tried to search but can't find anything. The boys currently take between 4 and 5 oz each feed but have had 6 too.
Also we have had a bit of a nightmare when trying the 'dreamfeed' - it unsettled one of our boys all night and it was dreadful. He managed about 1oz, refused to take anymore then was up on and off all night. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thank you so much xxx

Hiya,

My twins are now 6 months. It took me ages to get into any kind of routine with my twins, I remember the first 6 weeks to be such a blur of feeding changing crying and sleepless nights! I think if I was in some kind of routine from early on it would have helped massively!

I would feed them both at the same time even if it means waking one definately helps. And then I would put them both down for a nap at the same time and when one wakes, wake the other up. This is the only way to make sure you can have a breather.

Our routine goes something like this:
Wake up at 7:00
E - 7:30 (they never seem to be hungry straight away)
A
S - 9:00 - 11:00
E - 11:30
A
S- 1:00 - 3:00
E- 3:30
A
S - (sometimes a catnap at 4:30 of 30 mins but not very often now)
A - 6:30 bath time
E - 6:50
S- 7:00

We don't dream feed any more and more often than not they sleep through hurrah! You will have to adjust the sleeping times to suit you depending on how long they can stay awake for between napping. Not every day goes according to plan either, sometimes I find myself going with the flow if they're just not sleeping at the times I want them to or don't finish as much of their bottle as I would like them to! I always make sure they have a good bedtime routine though and it seems to have paid off.

Sorry if I've been rambling a bit hope some of this helps! Have fun with your twins - it really is double the fun :) xx
Sarah :)

Normally at this age, LOs are only able to go about 3h in between feeds...4h normally happens when baby is ~4 months old (give or take ;)).  It sounds like your boys are fabulous eaters!

Re: the DF, some babies never take well to it; and that's fine.  You can try moving the timing around, too, to see if by doing it at, say, 10pm it hits the sleep cycle better than at, say 10:30.  It took us about a week to see a difference being made with the DF.
