DS slept whole night!!!

Amazing...

Just two short cry outs before midnight but I didn't even manage to get upstairs before he calmed down!

Seriously, I don't get him :)

He wakes up happy and plays in his cot for 30min before BF. I guess GW is working, but really he slept only 30 min yesterday and it didn't affect his night sleep at all!!

Wow! Well done. I'd imagine the shouts yesterday evening were a bit of OT from the short nap. I wonder now that he has a couple of good nights under his belt will he still do two naps for you or will you need to do 1?

Yay for sleeping! :)

Did you try for 2 naps yesterday and he only took one? What A times did you try?

Hey!

Another night slept through! Yay!

No, I didn't try for 1 nap on Sunday, I was advised to stick to 2 naps as long as possible. And he gets sleepy around 10.30am so Sunday went like this:
WO 6:35
S 10:50-11:20 (in the car, heading to great-grandmother's) but woke up while car still moving...
NO NAP I guess he was overstimulated by all the people there, we thought he would fall asleep on a way back but he didn't so EBT
S 6:15pm
Cry out: 7pm, 10:30pm

Monday:
WO 6:20
S 10:35-11:15
A
S 14:50-15:50 (but took him over 30min in the cot to fall asleep)
A
S 7:15pm
cry out 9:30pm

Today:
WO 6:30
S 10:40-11:15 (but he was already sleepy before 10am)
A
S 2:35 - now :) will see how long, no WTS since last Thursday.

If he still needs 2 naps that's fine with me and I don't want to mess with him as his upper molars are also coming... so I expect some pain any day soon.

How to tell he's ready for 1 nap? If he were, he wouldn't be sleepy around 10am, would he?

If he's still happily taking 2 naps and sleeping through then that's great! You'll start to get nap resistance or bedtime resistance or EW, etc. when he's ready to make the transition.

Yay for the sleeping through! Well done x

Could be teeth pain, it could be the nap timing is off from where his internal rhythm wants it. It could be that he's not tired enough to sleep longer, but isn't totally refreshed either.

If he's sleepier earlier in the morning, have you ever tried to nap him then instead, like around 10 or so? And then keep his pm nap around 2 so that he has a longer A time in the middle?  Just a thought. :)

Hey Smurfette,

yep, I tried earlier Nap 1 and Nap 2 around 2pm, but it just doesn't click. Right after lunch (1-1:30pm) he yawns, rubs his eyes, face and bends his head sideways saying "mmm" as he does when he wants to go to sleep, but when we take him to his room he lights up again. Yesterday I spend 1h with him in the room before he fell asleep (he plays in the cot, lays down, stands up, calls me, says something etc.) and slept only 40 min (eg. Wednesday slept 10am-10:35am).
Today DH took 1:30h to get him to sleep (started at 1;15pm after lunch). So maybe it's teeth or just his thing?

The other thing is that he wakes quite early - 6-6.30am (with BT 7-7:15pm) and today 5:45am. Or it is it typical for this age? 13 months and 11 - 11,5h at night?

Hi, i'm proberly no good as i'm still having 3, somtimes 4 NWs with my 13 month old lol.. But her current routine is:

7.00am - up.
10.30am - nap. A time 3.5hr
11.00am - up. 30mins - I wake after 30mins.
2.30pm - nap. A time 3.5hr - she won't go down any earlier.
4.00pm - up. 1.5hr
8.00pm - Bed. A time 4hr.

This is the only way i can still fit in 2 naps. She did do a good 2.5hr 1 nap yesterday but then i think was OT come bedtime as she woke 30mins after going to bed and we had 4 NWs. But i'm thinking depending on how tonight goes, i might try a 1 nap tomorrow but wake after 2hrs and then EBT of 4hr. As for the past 4 days/nights she's woke exactly 5.00am but i've managed to get her back to sleep lol.

The EW, along with the nap resistance sounds like the start of the 2-1 transition. Are you capping the AM nap or does he wake himself? As Jem says, if you're not already doing it, might be worth capping the AM nap at 30mins to see if it helps the PM nap resistance.

Jem, is there any way your LO will go down earlier for her AM nap? Her A time to bed is fairly short so if you can move the naps a little earlier in the day it should help your NW. Would she go down at 10am? Failing that, you may need to cap the AM to 20mins.

Hi, nope she won't go down any earlier for AM or PM nap 3.5 is the earliest for both at the mo. I posted a thread on here myself and cutting the AM nap down to 20mins is what someone else suggested too so i'm going to maybe try that. Today i've done 30min AM and 1.5hr PM - I'm hoping for a better night tonight. x

So what kind of middle A time does he normally do?

Middle A is 3:15-4h, most often 3:30-3:45h
but I also tried 2:30h if his first nap was only 30min (no capping) and it didn't lengthen the second nap.

Basically, I want him to sleep min 1h in the afternoon but wake no later than 4pm b/c of 7pm BT and sometimes he can't even make it till 6pm bathtime without being clingy and whiny.

I guess he's more of a long first A time type of guy - it can be about 5h or more sometimes, esp if we go for a walk and he can fall asleep whenever he wants in the stroller.

Do you suggest I cap the first nap (lately he wakes after 40-45min) and bring the second nap earlier or still wait for the rest of his teeth to come out?

Can you post yesterday's Easy?

How long are both of his naps now?

My DD never lengthen her naps when she did a short nap. The morning one only got longer when I stretched out the A times. We did a long Am nap, short Pm nap, but I never capped anything b/c she would just naturally take a short pm nap. So you might be fighting nature if you're capping his morning nap...however that's only if he's like  my DD. Lots of LOs do it the other way around.
