Help teething nightmare
« on: March 27, 2012, 13:48:30 pm »
I,m in need of some advise my LO is 8 months and has over the last week started teething. Her two front one appear to be coming at the same time. she appear ok during the day well a little grumpy but not too bad but the nights are awful she used to wake maybe once or twice a night but for over a week she has been waking screaming 5-6 times and I'm having to Breast feed her to get herto calm down and back to sleep. I know this isnt the best idea but I'm exhausted and this is far easier. My worry is this is going to go on for ages as they still havent cut the gum yet? And I really worry a pattern is being formed of her not settling herself?? Not sure how much longer I can cope with this many get ups so little sleep.
Any advice welcome not really sure how to deal as she is obviously in pain and paracetamol isn't doing the trick

Have you tried Ibuprofen before BT instead? We find that paracetamol is no use for teething, but ibuprofen works much better. Also you can get herbal teething powders that can help or teething gels that you can use along with pain meds. I think if you can avoid BF to settle LO then that would be best, otherwise the NW could well stick around once the teething is over. BF to resettle soon becomes a prop and your DD could well wake and then rely on this feed to get back to sleep. Can you settle her with shush/pat in the cot instead maybe?

Hi there!  I don't have any advice for you, but wanted to let you know we are in the same position.  We just drops the paci, and we have teething issues.  The ibuprofen does work better, but it is supposed to be given with food.  My lo wakes from 2 on- once it has worn off.  I'm thinking about giving it at df to see if it helps.  Tonight I tried teething tabs and oral gel, and neither worked.  I eventually gave her a small feed to settle her.  Best of luck to you!

Same issue here! NWs have recently increased from 2  or3 (which is still a lot for this age I think) to 4+, with no obvious pattern. I have noticed his longest sleep cycle the past 2 nights was just 2.5 hours, which is killing us both, as LO wakes tired and I am a zombie. LO cut his first tooth 4 days ago, and the bad nights started after that. I guess maybe more are going to come soon? I've been nursing to sleep after failed attempts by DH at rocking/holding him. Last night was the worst night so far. UGH! Good luck, let me know if you find a solution. I'm so exhausted that I nurse a lot more than I want to bc it gets us all back to sleep faster.
