Nap requirement for 19month old
« on: April 02, 2012, 13:49:44 pm »
Hi
My LO will be turning 19 months in a weeks time. For the past week or so i have noticed that his napping has got shorter in length. He used to do 1.5-2 hr nap around midday. It has started to get shorter to 1hr 20, and now just one hour. He is sleeping very well at night though- 12 hr solid.
I have noticed a change in his behaviour in that he throws tantrums now and again, and sometimes whingy but i don't know whether this is because he's just 'growing up' or whether he is overtired. His behaviour isn't bad, he is generally happy.

Is he getting enough sleep do you think? Or should i be increasing his A time before his afternoon nap...i now put him down around 5-5.5 hrs after waking in the morning (which is usually 7am)

Thanks for any advice!

He could be getting OT if his nap is shortening but his bedtime isn't moving to compensate.  Could you post his routine so we can take a look?
Awake 7
Nap 12/12:30 - 1?
Bedtime ??

Tantrums are completely normal at this age so it's likely not just lack of sleep causing them :)  But we'll take a look to see if we can't tweak a bit.
The tweaking never stops!

Hi there
His usual bedtime is 7pm ie in his cot and he goes down easily and stays asleep til morning.  However since the shorter nap started I have been putting him down for 6.30 so that he can catch up. As I've not had EW or NW, I'm not sure if it's OT.
