13 yr old kid not feeding herslef
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:46:31 am »
Hi,

I have 13 yr old kid who is has not started feeding herself yet. We have to run after her and feed. We tried High-chair but with no help.

Even milk also she talkes only after lying on the bed....

Please let me know how we can encourage her to feed herself.

Thanks in advance...

Harish

Hi, do you mean a 13 month old?

At this early age feeding herself may not happen just yet.

Can you tell us her food routine, what times she eats and roughly how much (including milk)?

I'm guessing you also mean 13mo.
Honestly enjoy the time you only get them that young for a short time & the more you put pressure on independence in the way you want it, the more likely the child is to want your help more.
A good rule of thumb is "provide the opportunity" ie give a spoon & finger food, give her a chance to try & then help her. The most important thing to help children eat though is to eat with them, they learn the skills & the food variety from seeing you eat.  Infact Modelling & patience of all behaviour is the best way to help a child with any skill.
