Increasing A time, odd naps
« on: April 28, 2012, 00:45:33 am »
Hello,
My baby boy is nearly 6 months old and we've increased his A time to 2.5hours due to him having 45 minute naps again. We increased slowly but now he's having 1 hour and 15 minute naps.
What would that mean? Do we need to continue to extend his A time or is he overtired?
He wakes babbling and happy.

Edited: He had a pretty grumpy A time and I ended up putting him to bed at 1.5 hr A time. He fell straight asleep. So now I'm thinking he was overtired? I'm expecting another short nap. It's usually 1/2 hour when he's overtired.

Here is today's EASY so far:

WU-0700 (woken by DH coming home)
E- 0800
A-0700-0930
S-0930-1045
A-1045-1215
E-1130
S-1215-1335
A-1335-1550
S-1550-

How long was that nap at 1215?

I would think he needs an increase in A time to get a longer nap hun... push to 2 hrs 45 in the AM and see what occurs after a couple of days time ;)

It ended up being 1hr 20 minutes. How long should I keep him up for now?

Well the longer A time today went really badly.
He slept for 30 minutes and we tried for an hour to resettle with no success. Had him up for 20 minutes and DH is trying to settle him again now.
I even resorted to APOP by feeding to sleep but it didn't work.

It's just a touch of OT with the increase in A times.. maybe stick to the 2 hrs 45 for the first one, then keep the rest at their usual amount until he has a chance to adjust to the increase :)

So here's today's EASY. He's just so tired and cranky.

WU-0700
E-0745
A-0700-0940
F-0900 first solids rice cereal
S-0940-1010  30mins
E-1030 APOP (didn't work)
Up-1110
A-1010-1145
S-1145-1230 45 minutes
A-1230-1335
S-1335- 1345 (in the car) 10 mins
E-1415
A-1345-1515
S-1515-1550 (in the car) 35 mins
A-1550-1720
E-1630
S-1720-now

So you think I should still do the 2 hour 45 min A time tomorrow morning? I'm scared I'll get another horrid day. If he does a 45 minute nap I usually take 20 minutes off of the next A time, but what about an overtired nap. I wasn't able to extend any naps today but I also couldn't just keep him up because he's so over tired.

Yikes!  He is most certainly OT hun... Not to worry!

I would keep a very close eye on him tomorrow morning and maybe put him down at 2 hrs 30 as you were before since he needs to get rid of this OT before we can push on...

Thankyou. We had a rough day and night.
Because of that he slept in until 8:30!
I put him back to bed at 11 and he seemed to settle well.
Fingers crossed he has a decent nap!
