inconsistent nap lengths
« on: May 02, 2012, 18:37:27 pm »
hi,
i have a 3 mos old but he was 3 weeks early (not sure if that poses a problem or not)...
his naps can range from 45 min to 2 hrs (longer if we put him in the sling but since i've been trying to sleep train him i haven't put him in the sling in a while...and night sleeping is also an issue...argh).
anyway, after 45 min, he wakes up, cranky and tired. i try putting him down when i see his yawns/burrowing etc. which is only 20 min...! probably because his naps are so short and his night sleep consists of one 4 hr stretch followed by waking up every 2 hrs (and one 45 min stretch). i tried extending his first nap using W2S but he fights me tooth and nail. second nap can either be 45 min or 2 hrs depending if i or he can resettle himself. third nap depends on the second. (crappy second, good third, and vice versa) and for a while, the catnap before bath was nonexistent but lately dependent on the days events. i'm wracking my brain trying to find some sort of pattern and am coming up with nothing! please help!
thx

Welcome :)

Could you please post a typical day in EAS format for me to have a look?

A 45 min nap is often the result of baby being undertired when put down... they may need a bit more sleep but are no tired enough to go back to sleep.
