My LO is 9 months old. He has been having trouble napping and is now waking 2 -3 times in the night.  Often, I put him down for his nap when he is tired, but he just pulls himself up in his crib or plays in it and won't fall asleep.

I'm so frustrated about it because he used to be a fantastic sleeper. He started sleeping through the night at 2 months. These problems started with difficulty napping and waking through the night at around 6 months when we started solids.  Often he will have a burp in the night but he won't be able to get back to sleep. My milk supply is also decreasing and we are wondering if we should try to get him to take formula (which in the past he has absolutely refused!) When people see how much he eats during the day they always say that he eats SO much, but he's still waking to nurse at night! He's a big boy (23 pounds) and we only feed him until he won't take anymore.  Although I feel like I'm feeding him constantly! I'm trying to follow the model that the Tracey lays out for 6-9 month olds where nursing is a snack and solids come about an hour later... but I feel like I'm feeding him all the time!

His daily routine is usually like this:
5:30 AM Wakes to Nurse (I put him back down and he doesn't cry, but he could be awake in his crib)
7:00  E    Wakes Up/Nurse (If he'll take any)
7:15  A
8:00        Solids
9:45  S    (Put him down in crib with music, hold him in rocking chair first to wind down)
10:30      Wakes
11:15 E   Nurses
11:30 A
12:30      Solids
2:30   S   (Put him down in crib with music, hold him in rocking chair first to wind down
4:00   E   Nurses
4:15   A
5:30        Solids
7:30       Wind down
8:00   S  Put down for bed time

1:00 AM  Occassional time for waking
4:30/5:30 AM Wakes and usually nurses

Please help!

That's a pretty typical 9month old routine in terms of feeding, etc. It is normal to feel like you're constantly feeding milk or solids. You may want to try cutting the solids back a bit so he takes more milk in the day or offer milk with solids rather than water to get more calories into the day. I found 3oz EBM at dinner worked wonders to drop the early morning feed not that the early morning feed is terrible at this age but a little encouragement may get it to disappear.

His first activity time looks really short - at 9 months, I'd usually see it more up around 3.5hr rather than 2.5hr and the 45min first nap would indicate he's undertired when he's going to bed. I see he then does 4hr A which is probably about right but maybe a touch long off the back of a 45min nap. It seems to be working to get a 1.5hr nap though but I'm not sure how that'd change if you pushed out the first A time. I think the last A time of 4hr is probably causing him to be overtired and he maybe needs to go to bed about 7 or 7:30. Do you particularly want to be doing a short AM nap and a long PM nap?
