dropping the dream feed? 7 months go cold turkey???
« on: May 11, 2012, 09:34:45 am »
Hi, would love to hear from anyone who has gone cold turkey with the 11pm dream feed? My boy is 7 month and sleeps well we wake him for a dream feed at 11pm he's not doing to well with weaning and is offered 3 meals but usually only takes one, he very occasionally stirs before his dream feed (this could be habit) but I am wondering about stopping it now which I hope could increase his appetite during the day, what would people advise, I am considering offering less and less then none but just thinking try stopping and then if he wakes just go back to giving a dream feed??? Any advice greatly received!

We dropped cold turkey at around 7 months.  DS woke around 11 for a couple of nights, but settled easy.  Since, he has started eating much more during the day.  You can always try cold turkey and if it is a disaster go to the weaning plan.  Good luck.

Hi hun, we did a gradual wean at 7 mo and my DD never woke for it at all, it worked brilliantly.

So we used Tracy's plan and offered the DF with an oz less in the bottle and half an hour earlier every couple of nights. So if normal DF was 7oz at 11pm, we offered 6oz at 10.30pm for a couple of days. We then gave 5oz at 10pm, then 4oz at 9.30 and so on. Once we were down to 2oz DD refused it anyway and we just dropped it. HTHs.

We dropped it cold turkey- it worked for us.. Not saying thats the wisest approach- but it depends how impatient you are ;D ! (we also breast fed so reducing oz was sort of tricky...)

Thanks guys for all the replies! I think I am going to go for it & then if it doesn't work I will try the gradual reduction unfortunately or fortuately however you want to see it he had a massive tea & hasn't wanted his bed time feed so don't think I feel brave enough to go for it tonight but going to go for it tomorrow regardless and if he wakes I will feed him if not...well hopefully happy days and more sleepy nights, lol...will let you know how we go! X

So I did it and at 10.30 he started crying out (which he never usually does!) And I felt like he knew! I settled him back to sleep and then the next thing I knew it was 7am! Yippee!! fingers crossed that's it the dream feed is now gone (I type touching any wood I can find in the house) :-)
