well, I have tried to intro cow's milk numerous times with the same screaming wake ups from a sore tum...

Tried Natrel's Baboo milk as it is supposed to be a good transitional product (lower protein that milk but slightly higher than formula) and similar nutritional profile otherwise.  Today was day two.  Yesterday I gave her 2 ozs Baboo and 6 ozs formula in her nap bottle (all formula at BT though) and she did wake and holler but resettle on her own easily.  Today, I did 3 ozs Baboo and 5 ozs formula - woke screaming just over an hour into her nap (her cycle is about 1 hr 5-10 mins now)... would not go back down.  Crying, wicked burping... clearly uncomfortable.

I give up.  She takes a vit D supplement and is totally fine with cheese and yogurt so I am going to stop the milk trials now and just wait until her last case of formula is gone.

So, just to torment myself, I am going to wean her from her bottles over the next few weeks as well.  Joy.  This could be a bumpy ride!

Hugs Kara

I think you're making the right choice and there are so many substitutes like coconut milk if you want to bake or add to cereal or whatever. If she's tolerating other milk products that's great and hopefully this will all be done and over with within the year.

The bottle weaning definitely strikes a chord. I've got 8 tins of HAF left and after I plan on weaning the bottle too and I'm not looking forward to it. But honestly, there's a good chance I'm going to chicken out and put coconut milk in there for her ::)

That is really common and not surprising if she tolerates formula - she isnt on HAF right?

You are right BB - she is on Nestle GoodStart :)

It's milk based but only contains whey protein as opposed to most that have whey and caesin!  Just by chance that I chose it over the Enfamil brand... I may well have had a horribly miserable baby had I gone with it instead!  Total luck (or a bit of momma's intuition maybe?_)

So my next big hurdle is to ditch the bottles...

Anyone have advice for that one?  I am gonna start a thread in the Toddler Eating!

Dd2 is 2 next month and still on the bottle ::) She refused it for 4 days straight when she had tonsillitis but silly me kept offering it (it's a massive BT cue here) and now she's addicted again :P

With dd1 she was off dairy for about 4 days due to a horrendous case of diarrhea so we just kept telling her she couldn't have it.  Then we just gave her a sippy when she was better instead and she was fine -- not much drama at all after the first day or so.  My other two have never taken a bottle.

Hey - gastro isn't all that bad! I lost seven pounds in a week and managed to keep it off :P

Going to get a post in bottle feeding on this one but thinking of offering her 'new milk' in a sippy instead of the formula in a bottle when I do the bottle wean. Any chance this could work for you? Have it completely different?

Funny you suggest this Vicki, I actually was at the grocery store today and read labels for an eternity!

I picked up some almond/coconut milk (it's a blend of the two!) and I poured some in a sippy and she seemed to like it :)  It's made by this company:  http://www.earthsown.com/almond-fresh.htm

Fortified with many of the same things as milk and in the same amounts too!  Virtually no protein but she is a meat-eater so no worries there at all!

Nice!

E can't do the almond stuff. A lot of them contain soy in some amount or a warning that I read on one not to use if there was a sensitivity to soy. But we go with Coconut Dream and she loves the stuff and full of fat so I'm thinking this is going to be our transition milk.

Glad she liked it :D Makes things a lot easier.

Maybe the coconut dream stuff? I started by giving the chocolate stuff (I know, I know lol) and I'm gradually transitioning it to plain.

I get you though, E loved oatmeal forever but now flat out refuses to eat it. Like she has the option to be extra picky right?
