How to stop/wean?
« on: May 28, 2012, 21:24:20 pm »
Hi all....

Dd is 13.5mo
things seem to be calming and dd is going back to 3 feeds (although i am
Now dropping ine abd on our way, finally, to 2) but I am seriously thinking that I am getting ready to have my body back....

The recent warm weather has meant low tops, and occasionally a bikini top and poor dd is pulling and tugging to get in there!! (funny now, but annoying earlier.... I felt guilty!!)

We are hoping to go on hols with in laws in a few months and I really don't want dd thinking I am a "Buffet in a bikini" :-)

So, the question is, how do I stop if I do
Stop now????

Thank you

Hi there, does dd take a bottle or a sippy of milk? Can DH or another family member offer it to her at a usual bf time? I remember that feeling of wanting my body back, ((hugs)) xx

You could do a number of different things depending on how proactive you want to be about stopping BF - you could drop a feed at a time, offering a distraction or an alternative when BF is requested or work on "don't offer, don't refuse" principle.

Ok, finally!! Lol

Charlibob, dh is happy to jump on board, just a bit nervous as the pesky 5am feed is still lurking and I am not sure that a cup of milk would resettle dd like a bf (although to be fair that doesn't always work!!)

Fiver, thank you so much for that link it was really useful, I have a plan now.... Mid morning feed has gone so just sticking with 5am, wu and bt
Then will look at replacing w/u with sippy of formula... As I said though I am very nervous about the 5am one!!
Last will be bt

I am going to move very slowly with it one feed at a time

How long (until what age) should milk/formula be given?

Thanks again!!

Sounds like a really good plan, I def think gentle weaning is your best bet. If the baby isn't intolerant or allergic and has a balances diet they don't need formula past 12mo, you can give cow's milk x
