drop a feed?!
« on: June 24, 2012, 16:51:56 pm »
just wondering if i could get your thoughts...am debating dropping a feed...would love advice!we have been cutting out the catnap over the past few days & managing ok in the evenings, but not sure if i could drop a feed too...

current feeds are:
7.15am (sometimes 7.30am....changable because of early wakings!)
11.30am
3.30pm
5.30pm (this would be the feed i was thinking of dropping....)
6.30pm (bedtime feed)
dreamfeed 10.30pm

also,if her last feed is 6.30pm, should i be doing the dreamfeed at 9.30pm instead?

she's 5.5 months old btw! (will be introducing solids at 6mo)

You could try dropping it and see what happens.  If it doesn't seem to work or she's asking for a feed then, then perhaps hold off for a little while.

I believe it's suggested that the DF is done between 10 and 11pm, so 10.30 would seem fine if that's working for you :)

thanks for getting back to me fiver...
ya,that's why i was doing it at that time, but read on this website somewhere that 3 hrs after the last feed was optimum time for it, so got all confused then!
4 feeds during the day just seems so little, doesn't it?!or is it just me!!!

For some babies, they can do the 4 feeds in a day (plus a df).  How are your nights?  That's usually a good indicator of how the day is going, along with a good number of wet diapers, happiness, meeting milestones, etc.  Other babies need to be older before they drop to 4 feeds.

For some though, 5 feeds per 24 hours is enough at 5.5 months.

she has gone through the night without a feed from 8 weeks (thanks to Tracy's advice of using a dummy, which, also thanks to tracy's advice (and the many other mammies on this website) she no longer uses....she just loves sucking her fingers, thank goodness!!!) is that what you meant?not sure, sorry!

That's what I meant, sorry for the vagueness!  But if she's not waking at night for a feed, she's probably fine on 5 feeds per 24 hours.  My dd1 was at that age and she was fine!
