Trouble napping today
« on: August 07, 2012, 11:16:39 am »
Hi,
My daughter has been in her cot for 1 hour now and is still wide awake and spinning around. I have been in about 4 times when she has cried.
Today has been:
A 5:45
E 6:15
S 7:53 (1 hour) woke after 30 min
E 10:20
She has been in her cot since 11
S 12:09 I have just rocked her till drowsy and put her down

She has a dummy which she insists on pulling out so its not much help to her or me!

Yesterday
A 6:15
E 6:18
S 7:56(1 hour 5 min)
E 10:28
S 11:20 (1 hour 41 min)
E 14: 30
S 15:42 (31 min)
E 18:00
S 19:30 (pu/pd took 1 hour)

Is she awake for too long? Se is very inquisitive and flings and kicks for ages before calming down enough to sleep.
Any help/suggestions would be great :)
Thanks

Sorry, she is 5 months old. Today has been a nightmare!
We were doing so well.
I am dreading tonight :(

That first nap yesterday of 1h05 seems UT to me.  The average A time for a 5 month old is 2hr to 2.25hrs.  I would try pushing that first A to 2hr/2h10 and see what happens.

I agree - and then the following one she was probably OT and therefore couldn't settle.  If you get a short nap (less than 1.5h) you probably need to shorten up the following A time, maybe even as short as 1.5h (but takes a bit of experimenting to find out what your LO needs).  The last A to bedtime was definitely way too long after a short nap - I'd go 1.5h max and have an EBT if you can't extend a short nap.

By pushing out that first A time you should eventually get a better first nap which will push your day out a bit so it's more like 2 good naps and a catnap.

Hope that helps, fingers crossed for tonight x

Thank you.
I will make these changes today.
Last night she put herself to sleep for the first time in ages! It is so fab seeing all the hard work paying off :)
