Newbie - daytime sleep problems
« on: August 07, 2012, 14:06:21 pm »
Just registered today and looking for advice for daytime sleep please.

DS is nearly 8 months old and having trouble with the daytime sleep.

He generally goes down after his lunch (around 12ish) and could sleep from 40 mins to 2 hrs (if Im lucky!).
Today slept for 20 mins - this is happening more regularly now and wont go back down.

He used to be on EASY when he was younger, but moved him to a different schedule - similar to Gina Ford - our own tweeked version.
I think I may go back to EASY.

Took me nearly an hour today to get 20 mins sleep in crib, then woke up howling!
Perhaps he needs more stimulation after lunch, rather than going straight down to sleep..?
Tried to calm him down 3 times (rocked/walked round apartment) but fought it.

It is so confusing reading all the various books out there - they seem to contradict each other.

Our own schedule worked for a good while up to recently - but this daytime sleep is just not working and I'm very frustrated/exhausted and get upset  :'(

He already has 2 bottom teeth and the top ones are just through.

He is a great sleeper through the night though..its just this daytime sleep that I need to master and would really appreciate any advice - thank you.

Currently, his schedule is like this:

7am wake - change - bottle
8am - breakfast
9am - sleep for approx 1 hr  (could be 30 mins, could be longer)
10am - 11.30am - play
11.30 - lunch
12-2pm - sleep (could be 30 mins, could be longer)
3pm - bottle
3pm-5pm - outing/walk
5pm - tea
6.30-7pm bottle
7pm-7.30pm bed

Welcome and hugs. Sleep can be tough sometimes. It's great you are having good nights :)

Can you post what was working before this, your own schedule? - all Los are diff so maybe your own schedule just needed a wee tweak ;)

Based on your current schedule I would say he isn't tired at the am nap, he needs a longer A time before that nap to e tired enough to sleep longer ;) A times of 3-3.5 hrs are more age appropriate and may enable him to sleep for longer.

What do you think?

Thank you so much for your reply - much appreciated.

Yes, I agree I need to give him A time after his lunch, rather than just put down.
Will def start this tomorrow.

Today he went down for 30 mins after lunch, woke crying, settled him, then back down himself for another 30 mins (had 1 hr this morning).

Yes, our own schedule - was doing ok, but found he was showing signs of tiredness before the A time.

I guess as he gets older schedules need updating/tweeking :)
