follow on formula or not?
« on: August 08, 2012, 07:21:37 am »
I have read a lot about follow on formula just being a advertising ploy because companies aren't allowed to advertise milk for under 6months old so they have just created a diff one for older babies they can advertise.....is this true or is there any advantage to moving on to a follow on formula?
I am currently mainly breastfeeding still but give formula for the evening feed and am using aptamil stage 1, my baby is now 7 and half months old.

Thanks x

There is a lot of truth to the advertising ploy - first formulas can't be advertised so this is how the companies get around it.

The follow on formulas are slightly different and do have more iron in them, many babies get constipated on the increased iron and they can find it harder to digest as it's designed for them to have the same nutrients in a smaller volume. If your LO is doing well on the first stage formula there isn't a necessity to change, it's fine for the whole first year!

HTH!
