... although starting my day at 0530 was depressing...
I know - BTDT!  It won't always be like that though :)

I'd say more likely OT to be honest.............he may have been a bit UT when you tried to put him down, but by the time he slept he was OT - make sense?

is it common for the first wake time to be for example 2hrs and then as the day goes on the wake times become shorter even with 1hr30 naps?

It can be - some LOs prefer a shorter first A, others like the first one to be the longest and then shorter as the day goes on.  It's a case of experimenting to find out what suits your LO - and bear in mind it can change as they grow and hit different milestones x

so the fist morning nap was 1hr20, not quite the 1hr30 minimum... is that ok?
now we are on to the second nap but its not working out so far. we spent our A time in the stroller going for a calm walk, came home and put him down after 2hrs A time but he wasnt having it. he was trying to get up until he gave in and shut his eyes for 2 minutes. then he woke up and he is talking non stop, not interested in sleeping at all. we are now at 2hrs25 A time and he doesnt want to sleep... i dont know if he is UT or if he is just acting this way because he is OT.

1h20 could be slightly UT - was that after 2h?  Maybe try adding an extra 10 mins to your first A time?  If he can do 2h+ for the first A time, he may have been a bit UT after 2h second A time.  Some LOs can do a full A time after 1h20 min nap - my LO definitely can.

He's certainly OT by now - can you APOP a nap?  Rocking, carseat, stroller?

i dont understand how this is possible but he slept 1hr20 min after 2hr55 of A time. i 1hr20 would meant UT but how is that possible??

this is our day so far:

W-0700
E-0700
A-0700-0900
S-0900-1020 (complained and cried a little, but was asleep in 5 min.) 1hr20 nap
A-1020-1315
S-1315-1435 (was not interested in sleeping after 2hr A time finally fell asleep at 2hr55 A time, was sure I would get 30 min nap but instead got 1hr20 again?!?! i think the nap might have been even longer but he woke hungry)
E-1435
A-1435-??? (so confused how long this A time should be now)
