Trying 1 nap but it's short - UT or OT?
« on: September 26, 2012, 16:26:23 pm »
DS is 11 months and we have been doing 20 min AM/long PM for about a month now.  On days he wakes up later, I do 1 nap at 11:00.  The last 2 days I have tried 1 nap and it's been short:

4h 45A - 1 h 5 min nap

4H 30 A - 1h 10 min nap

Do you think this is UT or OT?

Previously he was able to sleep 2 hours on 1 nap.

UT I would think  ;)
When you say on sleep in days he does a 2 hr 1 nap day what does that easy look like?
I would suspect hes ready for 1 nap really :-\

The last time we did 1 nap was 2 weeks ago and it looked like this:

Wake 6:30
Nap 11:05 - 1:03
BT 6:07

Since then wake ups have been before 6:30 so I've been doing 2 naps.  However, I have noticed a few signs I think that he may indeed be ready for 1 nap:
- Nights are getting shorter.  Used to be 11 hours, now 10 - 10.5 hours is common.
- A time after 20 min am nap is now 3.5 hours.
- His long pm nap has been getting shorter (e.g. 1h 7m, 1h 20 m)

So when you say he's UT, do you think I need to increase his A time to like 5 hours and just go for 1 nap?

Okies - I think the 1 nap was working but he needed more A time before the nap. The EW are his way of trying to get the A time, but the 2 naps have muddled him up a bit I suspect.

So....with an EW of say 5.30 I would try this
WU 5.30 - keep him in the cot until 6am if you can or at least in the dark in his room with no stimulation. Day starts at 6
Nap 11 (or at least 10.45) let him sleep as long as he likes - hope for 2hrs
BT 4.5/5hrs later or 6pm

If your nap is short then you can try a CN 4hrs later but I wouldn't give ay more than 30mins and then BT 2 hrs later.

If your EW is 6am then try the first nap closer to 11/11.15 and as the WU moves later which it should after 3-5 days move the nap later as well.

What do you think?

Sounds good.  I'll give it a go!

Yesterday I took him in the stroller to get him to CN for 20 min but tonight I just did early BT.  He was asleep by 5:12 pm.  The only way to get him to take a CN is to go for a walk.  Not sure what kind of wake up I'll have tomorrow, but hopefully he'll tack on tonight.

He woke up just after 5 am today, so a good night, but too early to try 1 nap!

We went out this morning and I figured if he fell asleep in the car I'd let him nap 20 min.  He fell asleep at 9:40.  I'm sitting in the car in the garage right now while he sleeps.  lol

So we'll have to do 2 naps today but hopefully with a later BT we can get a later wake up tomorrow.
