Baby turns head at breast
« on: September 29, 2012, 00:10:26 am »
my baby is ebf and is 12wks. Lately she has been turning her head away from my boob, she will usually latch back on, but will cont this until I take her off, then fuss like she wants to eat more, I burp her and then  put her back and she does it again. Any suggestions what she is trying to tell me?

Does she do it on both sides? My DD does this on the right side (she prefers the left). I take her to the chiropractor which I find helps as she seems a bit uncomfortable on that one side, but mostly I think she prefers the left! My DS1 was similar.

What happens if you try feeding in a different position?

My baby has been doing this lately as well. He is 14 weeks. He has now combined it with pulling off the breast. I don't know if he's just frustrated with slow milk flow after the let-down is over, or if he's truly hungry.

I never tried a different feeding position before. I will have to give that a try :)

she only nurses from my left boob, I pump my right one to keep my supply up and store milk. She has been nursing from my left since she was born. We had a hard time with latching on that side, so we just use the left boob :)

Yep, we have a definite left side preference here as well.  Just about the only times she'll nurse from the right are when she's sleepy (so mostly in the middle of the night.  :P)

I also have a strong letdown which even at 15 weeks my DD still has trouble with, and she will often pull off once the milk lets down.  It makes her angry and once she's upset she doesn't nurse as well.  It's a bit frustrating.

She is my fussiest feeder I think, but I'm still hoping she grows out of it!
