Activities for Car Ride

Hi All!
My DS is 14 months old. We have about a 35 minute drive in the morning to nursery - we live in the country and I work in the city so daycare is close to my work.
My DS ALWAYS falls asleep on the car ride in.  This short catnap is only about 2 hours after WU and I think it might be contributing to his early waking.  The CN is an extention of his sleep - he knows its coming so gets up early knowing he can have a nap in a few hours.

I would really like to get him to stay awake on the ride and keep him to his 1 nap at 12:30pm.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcome. I've even thought about getting a DVD player for the car to keep him occupied and awake but I'm not sure I want to do this just yet...

When dd was that age and sometimes still if I want her awake I will give her a snack in the car.  Could you give him some cheerios or something to eat for the ride?
