Is this a wonder weeks thing? Can't settle at bedtime
« on: October 14, 2012, 18:19:59 pm »
Audrey has always settled so well at bedtime and now for the last 6 nights she has been a right pain, crying and crying and we just can't figure out what's up. Naps, meds, last A time, don't seem to make any difference.

Edited to correct stupid phone typos.

Well that was a fail at WIWO. The apst few nights we have been doing Gradual Withdrawal but I was getting soooo frustrated. Anyway she was completely hysterical, I have never heard her so upset, then she puked with the crying, I changed her sheet/nightie and held her and as soon as she managed to stop crying she past straight out, she was completely exhausted. The whole thing lasted 1hr 20 from bedtime 7pm to crashed from exhaustion at 8.20. Blah :( Not used to this, my angel baby really doesn't cry hardly at all, only if she hurts herself, I have never seen her like this.

I wouldn't swear to exactly when it was, but I do remember a couple of random weeks when x just would not settle at bedtime for no reason that we could see. It was slightly better if we did an earlier bedtime, but I had to just accept that I needed to stay in the room with him for half an hour until he fell asleep. It was a phase that passed - probably not the answer you were looking for, but that was our experience!

How many weeks is she now? I'll check on my wonder weeks app for you.

On the plus side, you can stop tweaking because it won't make any difference and you know it will pass. And x is halfway through a 6-week thundercloud but went back to being his usual self a week ago (having been so awful I was desperately trying to figure out ways of affording full-time childcare for 3 weeks!) so sometimes the phase doesn't last as long as the thundercloud.

We went through a bad patch around 1 year old. So much so he would only nap in his buggy for a few weeks  ::) and don't even get me on the nights!

Totally agree with this.  I need that WW app!  But usually if I tweak for a few days and it doesnt help I just give up and accept that she needs us in there and BT is going to be a PITA for a few weeks.  :P  We're in one right now as well and then she just got sick so it's even more of a pain!  I think DH  must have fallen asleep on her floor since he's been in there a while.  Ha.

Hugs, Anna. This too shall pass.

I guess I've got my answer! Think we're going to have to go the GW route, don't think I can handle the hysterics like we had last night...

Of course last night she went down without a peep... was lovely, first night in a week without any dramatics. She was hugely overtired (did a two hour nap 10-12 and that was it for the day), woke up a couple of times in the evening and cried out for a minute but settled herself without any help.

Back to hysterics tonight. Just been called back from the pub by DH, both kids freaking out.
