11mo nap advice please - EW, NW, short naps we have it all!
« on: October 17, 2012, 09:06:37 am »
Hi there,

I had a post going in the NW board but the issue seems to be coming from my LO's routine/naps so I was advised to come over to this board for further advice.

My DS is 11mo and around 10mo his naps all went to 30/45mins and so far I haven't been able to improve these. I am now having NW's and EW's and am desperate to get him back on track. I know it's an A time increase but am not having much luck so far.

Our EASY used to look like this

Up 0630
Nap 0930-1100
Nap 1400-1530
BT 1900

Now with the 30m naps and consistent NW of once per night and have pushed him to 3hr30A still no improvements yet. (I used to do set naps)

As of yesterday I started pushing him to 3hr45 with the aim of working up to 4hr. Here's what happened -

He was up at 0620 having had 1NW of 30m. I went to put him down for the first nap at 0945 (3hr25A) hoping he would be asleep by 3hr45A and he went very quiet and still almost immediately so I thought he was asleep. Anyway 10m later he is up jumping around in the cot and this went on for a while! Obviously not asleep then! I went to assist after a while because I was worried about OT anyway he still wouldn't go and I eventually gave up at 1050.

I brought him downstairs, gave him some lunch and took him back up to try again at 1130, he went to sleep at 1155 without any fuss and slept 1hr20, very surprising after a massive 5hr35A, unless it was because he was soooo OT?  BTW he was fine staying up no crankiness - nothing!

So he was up at 1315, was happy the rest of the day, maybe a little too happy! I did a EBT of1730 and he went straight asleep at 1745, 4hr30A time.

He had 1 NW at 0300 which was a poop and was back asleep by 0320 until 0620. (He hasn't had a NW since 6mo apart from the last 2wks).

I am confused at the A time I need to aim for, I was thinking 4hrs but after yesterday I wonder whether he can do a lot more? I am all over the place with this and am desperate to try and get him back on track. Can anyone advise where to start?

I was also given the link re 10/11mosleep gone wonky and am aware of the wonder week at this age which was last week for him, plus he has a cold and his 8th tooth came through 2 weeks ago so he has a lot going on at the moment!

Just to update..

Today he woke at the same time of 0620 having had 1 NW of 0300 for a poop and was back asleep for 0320.

I tried putting him down for his nap at 0945 with the aim of being asleep by 1000, he did exactly as yday, went very quiet and still at 1000 until about 1015 then just shot up and starting bouncing around! I tried to get him to sleep but ended up giving up again.

After giving him his lunch I retried at 1140 and he was asleep by 1155 exactly as yesterday although today he only slept 45m, I could see he was trying to resettle but couldn't.

I ended going for the 2nd nap at 1530 (2hr45A) APOP to sleep and woke him at 1615 because I didn't think he would go to bed at 7 otherwise.

Any advice appreciated given the additional info

Thanks ;)
Samantha

Hi,

I wonder if the moderators have missed my post, been waiting a few days for a reply???

Since my original post I have bumped his A time to 4hrs and it got us an 1hr25m morning nap yday and today, hurrah! Although yday I did a CN late pm to see him through to bed at 3hr15 and he slept 20m?? Not sure why so short? Today I tried the same thing after 3hr hoping he would be asleep for 3hr15 and he totally refused and I gave up after 1hr15 of trying!

Any ideas here, I want to say UT but 20m is usually OT isn't it and today I am sure he was OT. What's your thoughts?

Plus, any advice on how I can get the main nap longer than 1hr25 to help phase out the CN?

Many thanks
Samantha
