8 month old short morning nap
« on: October 17, 2012, 15:51:23 pm »
Hi, my baby just turned 8 months.  He seems to get tired really quickly in the morning.  He falls alseep fairly quickly for his morning nap, but then only sleeps 30-40 minutes.

7:15 Bfeed
8:30 Solids (starting to show tired signs)
9:00 Nap
9:40 Awake and still looking tired

He also sleeps 1 - 2:30
And most days he will do 4:30 - 5:30

The he is in bed from 7 PM to 7:15 AM with 3 breastfeeds during the night.

We've tried putting him down when he fist shows tired signs at 8:30.  He still only sleeps 30 - 40 minutes and wakes up tired.
The only times he has slept longer is when I nap with him.

I put him down at 9:00 because his sister has been taken care of by then and the house is calm.  Plus I feel 8:30 is too early for his age.  Thoughts?
Thanks

Hi hon- yeah, that A time looks too small for his age. I would try adding 10/15 minutes every day until you are up higher. Usually at this age you ae closer to 3 hours A time. If you jumped to that right away that wouldn't work- but a slow increase until you get a longer nap might help. The 40 min nap is an indication that he is undertired.

At this age the sleep cues can look VERY much like boredom, and are really unreliable. If you feel he is looking tired try a change of scenery, or a different activity as this might stretch him further.

How many naps is he currently on?

Thanks for responding.  He is on three naps, but doesn't always take the third one.  I'll try putting him down a bit later each morning.   :)

See how you go with that and let me know- it should make some difference. He may also be ready to go without the last nap once the A times are closer to 3 hours.
