Sweet potatos causing gas?

Hi all, my Lo is 5 months old. I was going to wait till the recommended 6 months for solids but he doesn't eat a lot during the day only 18 to 20 oz then downs 6oz in the middle of the might which is totally fine but pediatrician said to start solids twice a day. I'm ignoring him and only doing it once a day. He showed all the approrpriate signs so I made him some homemade. Sweet potato and yesterday am after 5oz bottle he ate a full tablespoon. He would have had more but didnt want to push it since its really should be just for practice right? He LOVED it. But then he throughout the fday and night had lots of gas. He is always been very gassy.but this was a lot. It didnt cause him anything more than slight discomfort and he actually slept great but I'm hesitant to try it again. Should I try again for a few days see if his digestive system just needs time to get used to it or stop and in a few days try something else?

Is it mash really quite liquidy still? If its not runny enough, he may be swallowing air around it. I haven't heard of sweet potato being an issue before but maybe it is for some LO's - yours has quite a sensitive little tummy.

Hi yes he has quite a sensative tummy. It was probably like a tomato sauce consistency. If its too liquidy he just lets it run out of his mouth because he gets distracted easily and thinks its funny. But i can certainly try and water it dowb more and see if that helps. Should I try again for a few more days? It is only a tablespoon once a day.

Yeah, I would keep trying just a tablespoon a day... if he's still having trouble after 3-4 days, then revisit but most LO's have some 'getting used to solids' time anyway. That consistency should be ok.

If I remember correctly sw potato gave Olly some tummy troubles. It may be his tummy needs time to adjust to having solid foods in it anyway so maybe give it another day or two and if it really is a problem try something else - pear is a nice first food.

Got some pears today.
He was really cranky all morning after his sweet potato which he never is. Then his poop which he finally took at 2 was A LOT and it was much thicker than normal. I think I'll give it another 3 days for the 4-5 day rule and then move on to pear. IF he's really cranky again tomorrow we'll stop for a day or two then try pear.

Hugs, I mixed sweet potato with milk (Bm for us but you can use formula) to dilute it and make it a good consistency. This may help? X

Thanks all. He didn't have as much gas yesterday but he still seemed pretty crabby. This could be related to teething though.
