Long nw cries, flops down then sits up and cries ad nauseum..ideas?

The title says it all really.I am getting two hour nw (last night term to twelve then for til six). She cries and I leave her them she flops down and goes quiet, often for several minutes, then up again, etc for hours. I know long nw are often ut but shes not trying to be up she s desperately trying to sleep. Does any one have any idea what this pattern of behaviour is likely to be?

Last night I fed both times but normally I wouldn't feed at ten, it makes no difference to length of waking.eventually she gets upset properly and I do pupd and she finally drops from excursion I guess.I don't know whether I have helped her too much at night, she puts her self to sleep but I always go straight to her if she cries at night ... I have been giving her calpol when she wakes in case she is teething, I can't see any teeth but her poo is a bit runny. She is ten months old and doesn't have any teeth yet.

yesterdays easy, she only had two 30 min naps:(
Normally:
3 hr A
1.30 sleep
3.15 A
Often a 1 sleep
3 to 4 hour A to bt around 630 or 7 depending on day.

Oh, I am trying to push first a to 3.5 but she scuppers me by staying up all night and is therefore miserable to start the day!

Any developmental milestones going on physically?

How new are these wakings? Are they at consistent times?
Could be discomfort - have you tried medicating before bed to see if she goes longer into the night?
Any new foods recently? Coming down with an illness, perhaps?

The flip flopping fish actually sounds a bit like OT to me- that's what we often had with OT. UT wakings were more often like 'HI! LET"S HAVE A PARTY' for us...

Thank you for replies, and sorry for bizzare typos - swype keyboard on my phone predicts the weirdest things with out me noticing!

The OT would make sense as she has had some miserable days recently, so that is nice to know that it could be as simple as that.

Regarding waking times, I think that they are 4 hours after going to sleep and then either 4 or 6 hours after that.  I haven't been recording the time but it is always some where in the region of 10-11 at night and then 3.30 - 4ish in the morning.  If I fed her I would understand but I don't normally, although I have done a few times just to check and to see whether it makes any difference to going back to sleep.  Is there something you might suggest to prevent the 10 o clock one?  Is it worth waking her at 9??  eww horrible thought LOL

I don't think she has any new mental leaps - but it's so hard to tell as they do something new every week don't they!

When are you going in to her? As soon as she cries? Do you know her mantra cry? Does her crying escalate when you go in?

She's in our room so there is no going in.her cry escalates if I pick her up.last night she had a late nap at 430 which was good as it gave a short a time to bed and a later bed time a and she slept until 510 from 745.then I put my hand on her after feeding and she finally went back to skeep until 710. So I think it was probably ot due to long a after her cat naps.

This is what I was wondering - can you leave her if she's mantra crying and give her the chance to settle herself? You may be going to her aid too soon and disrupting her attempts at getting back to sleep herself.
