Early waking
« on: October 31, 2012, 09:04:00 am »
Hi my 6 month old has been through some sleep training lately and it has worked great. She has a good bedtime routine and will go in her cot awake after her last bottle and put herself to sleep after about 8 mins. She was sleeping 7-7. Lately she's waking between 4.30 and 5 and is wide awake. She's not crying but thrashing around wide awake for at least an hour. She'll whimper after a bit. How can I get her to sleep longer again. I appreciate that she's just slept for around 10 hrs straight but would like her to wake later, about 6.30-7.

Up at 7 usually, nap 9.30 for 45 min. Then another at half 1 and about 4. Bed by 7

She's probably at the age that its time to drop the catnap - that can't happen til her A times are up around 3hr each though, so I'd start by pushing that first A time gently (10-15min increments every 3-4 days) til she's napping around 10 rather than 9:30. You may find she'll sleep longer than 45min for that nap too.
