I have a clearer idea of ds's sleep needs after logging for a few days but I'm not sure on how to make easy work to eliminate nws....

He needs a longer am a (7h) to be have a decent nap (1.5) and a shorter a to BT (4.5h) to eliminate early nws. During nws if I do wiwo he gets agitated and is up for 1-3hrs but if I sit by bed he will fall asleep quickly although wake again and I have to sit by bed again. If the nw is 5am ish it becomes EW ::)

This is his easy for last few days. I've been trying to keep to 12-13hr days max. Does anything jump out at u?

Day 1

Wu 5
A 8
Nap 1-2.45
A 5h15
BT 8 ss within min
Nw 4.15 i sat by bed
EW 5.45

Day 2

Wu 5.45
A 7.25
N 1-3
A 4h35
BT 7.35 20min ss
Nw 4.30 sat by bed
Wu 6.30

Day 3

Wu 6.30
A 7h10 (tried 6.5)
Nap 1.40-3
A 4h30
BT 7.30 10min ss
Nw 11-12 wiwo bt OT?
Nw 3.45-4.30 sat by bed
Wu 6.30

Day 4

Wu 6.30
A 7
Nap 1.30-2.35 I didn't stay
A 4h40
BT 7.30 (30 min ss) OT after short nap and longer a to BT
Nw 3.25-4.30 wiwo/ sat by bed in end
Wu 6.40

Day 5

Wu 6.40
A 6h50
Nap 1.30-3 capped
A 4h20
BT 7.21 (1min ss)
Nw 3.20 sat by bed
EW 5

Day 6

Wu 5
A 6h45
Nap 11.45-1.15
A 6h15
BT 7.30 (30min ss) was OT at BT
Nw 11 sat by bed
Nw 2 dh co slept or be would have been up every few hrs
Wu 6.30

I've noticed that if he has a shorter a to BT around 4.5h even after a good nap he will settle really well on his own at BT. Too long an a to BT and I get BT antics and me early evening.

Also during nws wiwo just leads to OT but gw leads to more nw if he realises I'm not near his bed.

So how do I move forward from here? Are nws a routine issue or st one and how can I tackle it?

Hi Hun, I'm so pleased that long am A time over rides short pm for him, it doesn't work for all LO's. Looking at the last few days I'm actually wondering if the longer naps are too long. Maybe he is waking at 5 because he's had enough sleep  :-\ Or maybe on a 1.5 hour nap his day needs to be 13 hours. I would say the latter is definitely true. It's a case of matching the right length nap to the right length day. IIWM I would stick with the 1.5 nap for now but put him down or BT at 13 hours and see if he sleeps past the 5 am mark. I know you said you get BT antics if it's too long, but I would still try it in the long term if you want to allow him the longer nap. That's not to say if he short naps you shouldn't bring BT forward a little. WRT the NW, for now I would probably stay until he has CU, then work on GW by moving to the door again and just using your voice, then hopefully out soon after.

NW can be down to many things, but for us at 2 years it was more developmental. At the moment I stay with Sam at BT until he sleeps because it is easier on us all, otherwise the BT antics can be ridiculous. But he does SS in the night, or at worst I WI/WO to return blankie/dummy. If that wasn't the case I wouldn't stay with him at BT TBH. Maybe when he is no longer OT they will stop...Finger's X'd  ::)

Thanks hon that is helpful. I guess I'll just have to ride it out till things even out. How long does it take to cu from OT?

Yesterday

Wu 6.30
Nap 1.30-2.30
BT 7 was aiming for 6.30 took 40 min to ss ::)

Nw 8 Couple mins
4-5 dh co-slept

We're those UT or OT wakings? His last a was 4.5h after 1hr nap which is longer than when he has 1.5h nap...

Any thoughts?? xx

How long is a piece of string  ??? it's impossible to say what's going on Hun, with so many factors to consider right now. The best thing to do is to stick with a routine and be consistent, then it will be easier to see through the fog  ;)

Lol thanks hon

He only did a 1hr nap today but fell asleep within a minute on 4h10min pm a time so I'm feeling more confident about figuring his a times out. Yesterday a 4hr a was obviously UT for BT. Can't believe 10 mins can make such a diff!!

I'm going to try w2s for that 4am nw so fx'd! Do I go in at 3 or later and stir a littlle?

Thanks again hon x

Hi Honey, I don't want to rain on your parade but be wary of thinking like this ^. OT can be accumulative so there are an awful lot fo factors to consider for eg: How long he slept the night before, his A time before the nap, his nap length, what he did on that particular day, whether it was energetic, in the fresh air etc, and I could go on. This is why the only way to truly figure it out is to stick with a constant plan for a few days.

Do you see where I'm coming from Hun  ???

(Hugs)
