8-8?
« on: December 13, 2012, 10:56:07 am »
Hi does 8-8 work just aswell as 7-7??

Ds2 is ten weeks old and we finally getting settled into a 3 hour easy! He sleeps at night Half of the time straight through other nights wakes between 3 and 5am.

I have a 22 month old also and I am struggling to get ds2 in bed for 7. It can sometimes take us nearly an hour to feed him as e has trouble with wind so with ds1 to take into account it always seems to be nearer 8
Before ds2 is asleep! I have tried waking him at 7 but then he is always tired as he hasn't had a good 12 hour sleep. Is it ok to leave him on 8-8 for the time being and hope it becomes 7-7 over time? I would prefer it to be 7-7 so I can get some evening back but at the mo I just can't achieve it!

Any thoughts much appreciated

Xxx

I think 8-8 is fine! I've heard other people suggest that is you try pushing it much later than that you might have some trouble.. but just as long a they have a 12 hour day you'll be fine. It should be easy to then move it either slowly or jump it back to 7am once you have things a little more settled.

That's great thanks I was thinking when he moves to a four hour easy it would probably be easier to do a 7.30-7.30 it seems to be working. When it comes to bedtime he isn't cluster feeding or dream feeding so he ha a bottle at 5pm and a catnap and then I give him another feed at 7 so he's in bed by eight! Otherwise if I wait until 8 to feed j it will be nearly nine! I am trying to fit a bath in and do it as a split feed like I did with ds1 but its nt quite happening yet?

Remember to keep in mind that 2 under 2 is a gold medal performance, with a complexity level of 200000! ;D Although it possibly doesn't feel like you are winning gold most days! That feeding pattern through the evening sounds fine- i'm pretty sure that's what we always did. We pretty much had a set bed time of 7 every night, so was the same but an hour earlier than that. Eventually you'll drop a couple of naps and move that last feed that's an hour before bed to bed time.

I did 8:30-8:30 with DD2 for the first while, while DD1 was on a 7:30-7:30 routine...that way DD1 and I got up earlier and had breakfast together, and in the evenings I had time to shh/pat DD2 to sleep after DD1 was asleep.  Of course they liked to stagger any NW/NF that they had.  We also didn't bath DD2 at bedtime until she was 6 months old, it was way too OS for her, we did morning sponge baths as needed.

WE always did 8-8 with DD1 and then when we had DD2 she was 8.30-8 ish for the same reasons as Heidi.  Worked out great!
