11 week old EASY gone to ESA!!
« on: December 19, 2012, 13:34:32 pm »
hi all,

For the past week my LO has been sleeping through the night and waking between 6 and 7 AM however in order to maintain the amount of oz he used to have during the day when he was waking between 4 and 5am (i.e. he would have been having an extra bottle these days) I have increased some bottles and feeding every 4 hours. As a result he is now doing ESA (although he is going down for naps awake and is able to re-settle). What should I do to get myself back to EAS?

Last week - 30 oz a day
E - 5am (5oz)
S - 5.30 - 9
E - 9am (5oz)
A - 9 - 10.20
S - 10.20 - 12.30
E - 12.30 (5oz)
A - 12.30 - 13.45
S - 13.45 - 15.15
E - 16.00 (5oz)
A - 16.00 - 17.15
S - 17.15 - 18.30
E - 19.30 (5oz)
Straight to bed and then night feed of 5oz at 23.00

This week - 27 oz a day
E - 6.15am (5oz)
S - 6.45 - 9.00
A - 9.00 - 10.45
E - 10.45 (5oz)
S - 11.10 - 12.45
A - 12.45 - 14.45
E - 14.45 (6oz)
S - 15.00 - 16.30
A - 16.30 - 18.45 (6oz)
E - 18.45 - 6oz
Straight to bed and then night feed of 5oz at 23.00

Appreciate any help and guidance to get more structure into the day is appreciated. Maybe I should try and feed him every 3.5 hours (5 bottles with 6 ounces and drop the dream feed which would still maintain his daily intake and bring me back to EASY)

Thanks

Why are you not feeding at WU? Many mommies don't count the time between the last NF and the morning feed in order to start the day in the right EAS order. He might not take a full feed (though my DS always did no matter when was his last NF), but then you can top up a bit later in the A.
Also, at his age he doesn't NEED to be in 4h gaps between feeds, he should be on 3h gaps and only when he will be around 4m he will transition to 4h gaps (as his A will jump as well). So if you feed at WU, then have his A and 1.5-2h nap then it should bring you to a 3h EASY or tiny bit longer than that.
IIWY I would still offer the same amount in the bottles like he has now (if he doesn't want he won't drink it and if it's not enough for him he'll be emptying the bottle) and I would keep the DF. You are getting a very good night at such young age and messing with the DF can mess with your night, at this point at least.
HTH :)

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't feed on wake up cause generally the time from the last feed is only couple of hours for example for below it would only be 2 hours. I presume I wouldn't want to start feeding every 2 hours.
E - 10.45 (5oz)
S - 11.10 - 12.45

Or are you saying I should feed on the initial wake up after 6.15 feed so I would have an extra part to my routine like this?

E - 6.15am (5oz)
S - 6.45 - 9.00
E - 9.00 (5oz)
A - 9.00 - 10.20
S - 10.20......

When you say below that "Many mommies don't count the time between the last NF and the morning feed in order to start the day in the right EAS order" are you counting the feed 6.15 as a NF or morning feed?

If this feed pushes out to 7am does it then become a morning feed? I find that if he feeds at around the 6am mark then he is happy to go back to sleep straight away with no A time however once he starts to wake at 7AM should I include A time?

Thanks again

E - 6.15am (5oz)
S - 6.45 - 9.00
A - 9.00 - 10.45
I mean that you feed at 9:00, so like you said:

E - 6.15am (5oz)
S - 6.45 - 9.00
E - 9.00 (5oz)
A - 9.00 - 10.20
S - 10.20......

When you say below that "Many mommies don't count the time between the last NF and the morning feed in order to start the day in the right EAS order" are you counting the feed 6.15 as a NF or morning feed?
In your case 6AM would be a NF (I still can't believe 9 is your WU, we always had 6 as WU and starting the day :P) and then you don't count the time between this NF (it might be some nights at 5:30, 6:30) and your WU feed at 9, in order for you to start off the day in a good "order".
I can't say right now what to do if he wakes up at 7, because he doesn't do it right now and he might not ever do that,yk?
It really depends on you, do you want to start the day at 7? In that case you can just let him wake up if he ever wakes at 7 for a feed, or you can always do what you do now, treat it as a NF and put back to sleep.
