How long between feeds?
« on: January 01, 2013, 02:29:20 am »
My baby will be 6 months old on the 6th January.  I am bf him & I was wondering how long he should be going between feeds now? Currently he goes about 3 hours, between feeds both during the day & at night. I haven't started him on solids yet.

Although Tracy recommended moving to a 4hrly feeding schedule at 4mo in the books many BF babies don't make it to 4hrs until they are established on solids.

If he is feeding 3hrly at night as well then it may be a routine or prop issue. Is that possible do you think?

Do you mean like a habit that he is feeding every 3 hours during the night? I have tried to get him back to sleep without feeding him when he wakes in the night but he just screams even louder. He wakes & feeds usually at 10:30, 1, 4 & then 7. When I feed him he usually goes back to sleep without any problems. What should I do?

I might try stretching your daytime feeds out to 3.5 feeds during the day and see if that helps -- sometimes LOs get in the habit of eating more often.

Is he an independent sleeper for naps and BT? Has he ever resettled for NWs without a feed?
