26 month old routines...
« on: January 04, 2013, 05:30:26 am »
So things were good here for a bit and again, they have gone wonky!

We were just about to start capping nap down to 1.5 hrs but DD decided to throw a wrench in and cut the last 3 of her 2yr molars in 10 days!  Good times!

So, now that the teeth aren't causing too much trouble (she does tell me now if they hurt) we might need a tweak!

We are currently -

Wakes at 635am generally, give or take 15 mins
Nap 115pm - 3pm (capped)
BT 8pm... but not settling until almost 830pm.. and then faffy until almost 10pm!

the problem is that naps and BT are massive settling times (not typical for DD) so I think she might be UT at BT from too long of a nap... Too much day sleep is leading to a shorter than ideal night for her (she does best with about 11 hrs).

So, my question: what is your toddler doing at this age?

Also, best to push nap out and keep wake up the same??

Here's us Hun
(I for earlier nap if Z wants it, he will tell me now if he is tired before nap time, and he's cutting molars too but seems to get sleepy from it)
WU 6.30/7 I wake at 7 if not up by then and he is always out of cot at 7. He likes to hang out in bed ::)
Nap 1.30-3 sometimes a bit earlier same WU, so,e times a touch later - if big day then I will allow extra 15 mins to 3.15
BT 7/7.15 he usually is out by 7.30

Kara are you having refusals? I found allowing Z to take a book to bed at night, and a toy at nap time helped. He really only plays for 5-10 mins but helped when he was fighting going into his cot x

Not every day, but at least 2 out of 3 days ;)
Interested to see other routines too. I fear our kids probably have a relatively long nap in comparison to others!

DS has been on a 2 - 2.5 hr nap since his small blip at 25mo where I thought he needed less sleep, but he then proved me wrong  ::)

He's still doing a 13 hr night as well  :o

Very high sleep needs, so definitely far from the norm! It might be the winter effect though, as we're all sleeping more atm  ;)

Most days M is now doing ..

6:30 wu
1:30-2:15 quiet time, no napping here
5:45-6:00 BT sometimes sleeping at 6:00 other nights not sleeping until 7:00

Sara, how in the world do you get Zac down for bed just 4 hours after such a long nap?

Erm.....no nap here for the last 2 weeks!!!!! :o So far so good and that is with a move to a BGB thrown in for good measure!

Our routine for the last few weeks has been

Wake up 8:30
Bedtime 7ish so she's been tacking onto her nights. We're getting more sleep in 24 hrs than on a 45min-1hr nap and a 10.5hr night.

C has been handling it fine, although we've had 2 nights with some bizarre NWs but otherwise STTN. I, on the other hand, have needed a nap many a day!!!!

my 24 month old likes 2-2.5 hour naps and 10 hour nights.  so wakeup is around 6am, nap 12:30-2:30-3, BT 8pm.  only 12-12.5 hours total but capping the nap does NOT help him sleep longer at night, so we just let him be.

Mama c - Sometimes 3.5 if he naps later on the odd day (2-3.30)
I don't find it affects him. If he has a really long morning then he's more tired for the nap and still ready for bed at the usual time. Maybe it's his body clock. BT has been 7-7.30 since he was 4 mths old other than 2-1 EBT or bad bays. For him it's about total A time and how it's distributed. There's no way he would take a nap earlier than 12.30 now, and at 12.30 he would fight BT more.

Wow Nicola :o Z can handle a no nap day, but typically he needs one to not be a crank. He is very active though too, and it's summer here so out a lot. Web are similar to CM, less nap often = shorter night

Sara, I know, I know! I was hoping that I would be able to hang onto the nap at least until the next bub arrived! I was hoping for some late pregnancy naps once on maternity leave!

Hi DS2 (26 months)

wake up 6am
nap         12.30 - 2.15 ( 1 3/4hrs capped)
asleep by 7.45pm

We only get 10 / 10.25 hrs overnight, so he still needs the long nap. But bedtime is a fine line, 5 or 10 mins later and he's up at 5.30 / 5.45 any earlier and we get the same!! We walk the line, but have very few NWs and he is generally a happy bunny. We can spin into OT very easily though - then naps are broken and tantrums start to appear...........

WOW Nicola!  That's wild - we can have the odd no-nap day, but she is some kinda crabby the next day even with a 12.5 hr night... and she tends to need a longer earlier nap after skipping it the day prior.

A is like Z, total A time is what rules her too.  I have had her in bed easily (asleep in minutes!) after a 2 hr nap that ends at 345pm.. BT at 745 ;)

We got a true EW today.  9.5 hrs.  Gross.  So 2 hr capped nap and an EBT with a lot of prayers for a catch up!
