Help!
« on: January 06, 2013, 18:21:16 pm »
My DD is almost 6.5 mos and was previously a short napper. By using shh/pat, pu/pd and the advice I have gotten from this awesome forum her naps have been improving over the last couple of weeks...that is until about 5 days ago. She has just cut a tooth, is sitting and rolling like a maniac and starting to get up on her hands and knees. All of which she has been practicing at night so needless to say none of us are getting restful sleep. She is also much harder to settle for naps as she flops all over the place, I have had to start pu/pd again to get her to settle. The other thing that has started to happen is that with the combination of longer time to settle, longer naps and longer A time he hasn't had a 3rd nap for the past 3 days. Should I just go with this or still try to get her to have the CN ??? I did try for about 20-30 minutes the first 2 days but all that happened was a lot of crying! I have bumped her BT by about 30 mins to try and account for this but it's hard to tell if she is OT or if its just the new mobility that is making it hard for her to settle. My other question is about her A time, during these rough days where she isn't sleeping well at night should I be cutting back her A time?
I know I just need to ride this new phase out but any advice on how to make it smoother would be greatly appreciated!  :)

Hi

developmental milestones are a pain! The only thing you can do is make sure lo is getting plenty of practice during the day.

Is she an independant sleeper? How long are the good naps? At this age most Los get ready to drop the third nap so you would be ok to drop it gradually and do EBT as night sleep is more restorative. Have u seen this?

All about the 3-2 transition- 5/6 months

Is my baby ready to increase his ‘A’ time? (incl. 'A' times for younger babies)

Typical Amounts of Day and Night Sleep.

If you could post ur easy as EAS we could come up wih a new routine if u like :)

Hth x

A pain is right!! Last night I was up with her 6 times between 12 and 7...ugh. That was by far the worst night, maybe that means it'll get better now? Haha. As far as practice goes, she spends most of the day rolling around on the floor with her toys either on a blanket or her play mat and she can roll front to back and back to front but for some reason she forgets at night. I guess its baby rolling bootcamp time!
She is an independant sleeper..she was doing really well until these milestones started stacking up. She was a chronic 45 minute napper but we have been able to lengthen those to 1 hour min up to almost 2 hours. Her average though seems to be somewhere around 1 hour 15 mins.

Here is our EAS from yesterday..it was a bit different than the last few days because she actually had her 3rd nap but we took her swimming and she was tuckered. The previous 3 days were about the same as far as A time goes but she just skipped the 3rd nap and was in bed by 630.

Thanks so much for your input!!

Average a times for 6.5mo is 2.75-3 hrs and your Los first a Time is 2.5h giving a 1h15min nap. Anything under 1h20min is UT (exc 30 min OT 45 min ut and 20 min discomfort) so I would gradually increase first a by 10-15min if Angel/ textbook and 5-10 min if not till h get a restorative 1.5h nap. Hold new a time for few days to give lo time to adjust and if still getting UT nap increase a ime again. If u get OT nap during this time reduce next a to minimise OT accumulating.

Once your getting a restorative first nap you can increase second a to gt a good secon nap too. So your aiming for

Wu 7.30
A 2h45min
Nap 10.15-11.45
A 2h45
Nap 2.30-4
BT 6.30-45   Wdyt??

Okay great - that makes total sense. I will start the increase tomorrow! Can you tell me what Wdyt means? Also, on days like today when LO is super tired in general from not sleeping well the night before should I worry about decreasing any of the A times so she doesn't get OT?

Thanks so much!!

I would only shorten naps if you're getting 30mi. OT naps.
