7 month old 1hr naps?
« on: January 13, 2013, 14:09:50 pm »
Hi there

I have been working really really hard to wean ds of his swaddle, which he is addicted to, and we seem to have managed to transition eventually, but he seems to be having consistent 1hr naps.  Could I need a routine tweak or is it another transition I need to help him learn to do?

We are really playing around with his EASY trying to get it right, but it seems like after a 2hr nap he can manage 3.5hr A time, but if he only does a 1hr nap then he only manages 3hrs.... But he is literally nodding off.... Never thought I would see the day! Ha!

Any ideas?

1hr naps are UT so he could do with an a time increase of 5-10min for that nap. Hold for few days to let lo adjust and see if nap improves. 1.5h naps are most restorative.

Average a times at this age are 3-4hrs so it could just be a routine tweak that needed

Is my baby ready to increase his ‘A’ time? (incl. 'A' times for younger babies)

Thank you :)

One question.... If he has short naps should I offer a catnap to avoid OT or will that take away from his night sleep? Nights are awful and I'm always so nervous to make them worse...

Basically is it better to go into night UT or OT?

His sleepy signals have totally changed recently and I'm having trouble finding the right time for his nap.  I take him when he becomes dopey and starts to space out.  That never happened before...

Ideally neither ;) But some babies do cope with a little bit of OT better than others. I would tend to offer EBT rather than a catnap and try to let him catch up with night sleep. Unless the second nap just ends so early that even early bedtime will be too late - then I'd do just a very short catnap, and possibly still EBT.

If you post your EAS we can see if we can help with a routine tweak :)
