Still can't fix EWs!
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:42:58 am »
Ds is 31mo, IS, give meds for teething.he has been EW for over 2 months. Ive tried everything under the sun following advice on the forum and still nothing is getting rid of EW! He's averaging 9-10 hours of night sleep.

I've tried set naps and BT, later uncapped nap and later BT, capped nap (1.25h) ad set BT (8) but I don't get consistent night sleep. On Some long 14h days with uncapped 1.5h nap he's slept 11hrs o/n but last night it was less than 10 hrs. Days he's had a capped nap and set BT he still wakes early...

I can't try no nap days when he's waking before 7 as it'll mean a 5.30pm BT!

What else can I do? Is there anything else to try? The only thing I haven't tried consistently is a 30 min CN...would that work and so I keep to a 12 or 13h day?

Thanks for any input and fresh eyes!!

Ds woke at 6.20 today so I did 30-45min CN (inc settling time) at 1.15-2 and aimed for 7pm BT. He's finally gone to sleep at 7.30. When a time is right he falls asleep within minutes. Dyt he's OT now? Where am I going wrong now?  ???  ???

If the uncapped nap and a longer day works for him can you try that for a week or so and see what happens? If you try what you did today for a few days and that doesn't work then the long day and uncapped nap is probably your only option if you can't do no nap days.

Thanks Laura.

I've been doing the uncapped nap and long day for almost two weeks now- he's had the odd day during this time that he's slept 11h o/n but mainly they're still 9-10hr. So I guess ill have to try the short nap. Should I try to keep to a 13 h day with a capped 30-45 min nap or 12h?

What does your gut tell you? You could try for 12 but it depends on if he will actually do a 12 hour night if the circumstances are right.

What I found with my DD was that she had about 11-12 hours sleep in her over 24 hours so I could either do a nap and a short night or no nap and a longer night. She dropped the nap at about 30 months because temprament wise she was much better for having a long night. She took a couple of weeks to adjust and I couldn't take her out in the car at tea time or she would fall asleep, but that passed and she doesn't often sleep in the car now.

Hmm I don't actually have a gut feeling on this. I thought he still needed the nap because he was still doing 1.5h naps but nights went to pot.

He slept 7.30-6.20 so a much better night and a 13h day. Ill stick with a 30 min CN and 13h day for a week or so and see how we get on. Hopefully he'll sleep past 7 am so we can try a nnd....

Will be back if I need any more advice. Thanks for your help x

Good luck! That was a great night - hope it continues! If he is only doing a 30 min catnap it will be much easier to drop when you feel it's right.
