Awake time for 18 month old ?
« on: January 24, 2013, 14:37:54 pm »

How long should my ds be awake for during day ?
Today he woke at 7, nap at 1245 and woke at 215(1.5 hours) and I usually put him to bed at 6:30 ish.
At the min we r having numerous night wakings for what seems like no reason, is he not awake enough during day ? Should his bedtime be later ?
Thanks

You could try pushing his nap back a little bit BUT there is a BIG sleep regression at 18 months. For my son it was brutal, felt like it would never end, and no amount of tweaking helped anything. Has he got all 16 teeth fully in?

I'd try medicating then and see if his teeth are bothering him - canines and first molars are REALLY painful. You can try pushing the nap later and see what happens, lots of them do fine with the same length nap but later in the day and the same bedtime.

Hey there! We're having very Similiar problems with our 18m DD. it was suggested that my DD's day msg need to be extended to counter the CP as so.....

"If you look back at the last week, what has her average sleep in 24h been (excluding NWs)?  It might help you to know what sort of length night to aim for.  E.g. If she averages around 13.5h in 24, you could aim for a 2h nap and 11.5h night (so 12.5h day - 13h may just be a touch too much for her) and that might help you to know when BT should be? "

I know a 13h day is too much for my DD - so based on this undm aiming for a 12.5h day. Do my DD naps for 2h in the day (longer if I'd let her) DVD averages 11.5 at night. It's only day 2 for us but seems to be panning out - maybe worth giving it a shot?
