23 months and has been resisting naps for almost two months!
« on: February 04, 2013, 20:26:53 pm »
I'm not sure how long this has been going on but has been since before Christmas for sure. DD will go in her bed and just talk and play. For hours!! I've tried putting her down anywhere from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. She never falls asleep before 3. I have to pick up my older DD at 3, so if she does fall asleep, I have to wake her up. Sometimes I put her down after I pick up DD and she will nap from 3:30 - 5:00 pm (and usually falls asleep pretty quickly). But that seems so late! She gets up at 7:00 am, goes to bed at 8:00 pm. If she doesn't nap, I put her to bed a little early.

Any ideas? She isn't unhappy, isn't crying. I've tried giving her books/toys and giving her nothing. She will talk and sing to her toes! She's standing up, rolling around, standing on her head, etc. Anything but laying down. And if she doesn't nap, she is VERY cranky, so I know she needs it!

I'd suggest putting her down a bit later.   It sounds like she is UT when you put her down.

Try 1.30 or 2pm to see if that helps her nod off more quickly.

Thanks for the response. I've tried pretty close to 1:30. The problem with the closer it gets to two is that I have to get her up at 2:45, so she gets 30 min of sleep, even if she does fall asleep pretty quickly. Plus, staying up from 7:00 - 3:30 (her normal "fall asleep" time lately) is 8.5 hours. That seems so long of an "A" time to me? She is very puzzling :)

that is tricky with having to pick up your older DD

how does she cope with a short nap?  can you do EBT on those days?  or would/does she nap earlier the next day to catch up from shorter nap the day before?

8.5 hours is relatively long, but lots of LOs start to drop the nap around 2 years, and start having no-nap days, for example, so it's not that unheard of by any means.  sounds like she is heading that way to me although is probably a way off from not needing to nap at all.

there is a support thread above for parents with LOs dropping the nap if you fancy joining - it is a long process so we all need lots of support LOL!

If she gets a short nap, she is cranky. If she gets no nap, she is cranky. If I put her to be early, say 7pm, she will get up early the next day like 6am, and STILL won't take a nap. That day is extra cranky!! Its hard because it seems like she is cranky the whole time my DH is home and then goes to bed and he says he never gets to see her anymore. If I do put her down after picking up DD, I think its better to wake her by 5pm, other wise she has a hard time going to sleep. My 4 yo DD still takes a nap and sleeps more than she does - that's what is so odd!
